Up for Acuracy or down for distance

Dilemma
I went through a mini launch monitor session and It turns out that I am just shy of dead center for haft flex...I have a 83 mph average SS from 80 on easy and 86 on fast swings. I could go either way but forgot to ask the PRO how much distance difference there is if I went from S300 to R300... two questions

I know I'll lose distance but I'm looking for accuracy but not if I'm missing out on 10 yards (5 I can live with) but I do't want the club to feel "whippy" since I am at the upper threshold for flex. I am just wondering if anyone out there is playing S300 with slow speed or whether I should stay R300.

I don't know any advice would help.
SS w/ 6 iron 83, tempo: about average to semi-fast, 6i carry= 170

Doesn't necessarily have to be graphite, you can get lighter steel shafts like Nippon 750, 850 and 950. I have gone from S300 to Nippon 950gh Stiff, love the accuracy, trajectory and distance of the Nippon. There are other steel shafts that are in the sub 100gram. The R300 and S300 are about 120-130g shaft, i would say go with 950gh stiff or similar. With lighter shaft, your swing speed increases. Good Luck!!!

......might be worth it to visit a club fitter.....a good one will dial you in and modify the shaft to fit......

My two cents is to firm up the regular flex.......but, I don't know your swing characteristics...

The weight of the shaft will be important for your tempo, but the earlier guys are right in that the Nippon's do play great.....one might just fit perfectly.

I'm in the same boat as you. I hit my 6 iron 172 yards (Carry Distance). As a PGA Professional and club fitter you can go one of two ways. If I have a student that is in between shafts, I tend to go with the more flexible. In your case, the R300. The R300 is not going to feel whippy to you, nor should the s300 feel stiff.

Take your ball flight into consideration. Do you need a higher ball flight? If so, then go with the R300. If your ball flight is fine, then you may want to stay with the S300. Distance will most likely not be a problem with either choice you make. What is your age? Are you at the age where clubhead speed is going to slow down in the next few years? Something to think about.

Another option, is to go with a Rifle 5.5. These fit in-between a stiff and regular. Another option. Do not get into graphite until you are recommended to do so by a PGA Professional.

To be honest because you are young and bound to get stronger and swing the club faster so i would opt to go with the stiffer shafts.

That's what the pro said when I demo'd some clubs and I asked but he said I could do either. IDK what to do! no matter who I talk too they all say I can "go either way it's up to you"....that's not what I came to them for........
