Customizing a Ping i3 fairway wood

I was looking for some help with customizing my old Ping i3 fairway wood. I once played with a guy who had stripped the paint of his TiSi driver and it got me thinking about doing the same thing to my old fairway wood. Is there an easy way to do this myself that won't damage the club. I know I could sand it off, but I am afraid that it would damage the steel. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. I don't plan on repainting it, probably just polishing it up once it is stripped.

Coat the whole thing in gel paint stripper (make sure you use gloves) and let it sit for about 30-45 minutes. Scrub off with a nylon brush and repeat as necessary.

I had a Titleist 904F head sitting in Citristrip over night and it did nothing to the paint. I would recommend using sand paper like stated above. It will take a little time but gets the job done.

I've done this before with Nitro-Mors gel - leave it overnight and the paint comes off really easily. After that you can use a fine-grade wet and dry paper to get a smooth finish.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and went the sandpaper route. I started with some medium grit paper and then finished it up with some fine. I have posted some pics. It still needs some touching up, but I had fun doing it. It kind of makes an old club seem new and different. I have found that revamping an old club can satisfy my cravings for a new one. But as I was doing this, I was trying to remember why this club ever got benched (For years it was my favorite club, and my go-to club if I needed a solid tee shot). I can't remember why so I think it might be going back in the bag again (check my signature to see if it happens).

Its true. If I ever do this again I will go that route (and I recommend that anyone who tries this do the same). But all the same, I am not too disappointed with how it turned out. It isn't a club with any resale value, and it was just collecting dust so I am okay with it (It looks a little better to me in person than in the pictures). And I am still going to clean it up quite a bit. I think a lot of people probably won't like the two-tone look, nor the sanding circles, but I kind of like them. But again, I am fully aware that it isn't the classiest work, just something fun to do.
