Golf in SF/San Jose area

Heading out to the San Francisco/San Jose area in a few weeks to play some golf.

Any recommendations for sub $100 courses that are must plays?

I have heard some good things about cinnebar.

Any other suggestions?

Well,

Your in luck. Several moderators a here in NorCal. Johnny, Demolition Man, KascoPro and the famous Joe Kwok Master club builder. Coyote Creek is a Public course in South San Jose that held a Senior Tour event, Cinnebar is okay. There's a new public course in Pleasanton called Callippe Reserve that's very nice. The Northern Cal Golf Assoc operates 2 courses. Poppy Ridge and Poppy Hills both are very playable and inexpensive. If you want famous try the Alister Mackenzie designed Pasatiempo in Santa Cruz. If you can make the connection, there's always Olympic Club, SF Club, Lake Merced GC.

I am a huge fan of Poppy Ridge in Livermore, which is a links style course. Also near by is the Norman designed Wente Vinyards Golf Course which will host a Nationwide event this year (http://www.wentegolf.com).

Yes, The Poopy Ridge is the best choice, good quality, friendly service and nice view . The most important

thing is the reasonable $$$.

Thanks for all the great input guys. They all look like great courses that I will definately check out.

Can't wait to get out of this cold weather and head down south to play a few rounds especially with some new sticks i've picked up over the winter!!

Now if I could only find a good deal on a nice laser rangefinder, I'd be set to go!

Of the three nines at poppy ridge which two do you guys recommend?

Merlot, Chardonnay, or Zinfandel?

there's a certain rotation everyday and sometimes they will not open one of the 9's until a certain time...but any rotation that includes Merlot would be the way to go.

Do you have any experience at Coyote Creek?

Between the Tournament and Valley course is one significantly better? or are both must plays?

Looking to book Coyote Creek tomorrow.

If anybody has any input in regards to tournament vs valley course, it would be very much appreciated.

The Tournament course is carts only. The Valley isn't such a bad walk- but a few of the tees are far apart and well, you might get lost.

If you can only play one- the Tournament course has more interesting holes and elevation changes. And it is more challenging.

The Valley course has a few straight par 4's lined up next to each other- not very different from one another, but you can bomb driver there all day and be fine from the next fairway for the most part.
