Best Oil Can Refinish - Where Should I Send It?

Slighter Tacoma

I'm thinking of refinishing my FPR black Slighter Tacoma. It's carbon, so it should be OK with an Oil Can finish, right?

Tom doesn't do Oil Can, so I'm wondering if there is any one in particular I should send it to. I'm familar with the names Lamont, Deerslayer, Pro Plating (?) and of course, Black Oxide Services.

Any nod to one or the other when it comes to this finish?

Send it off to BOX, Black Oxide Service. And Yes, Oil can works on carbon steel! They do high quality work!

Oil Can cannot be done to a stainless head. Also, the carbon steel has to be unplated for the oil can to work.

I'm quite sure that it's already been offered, but Black Oxide Service [bOS], hands down, does the best Oil Can finishes available......... Their "Patina Oil Can Finish" is the best $48.00 you'll ever spend. I would add, however, Do not let them re mill the face, as they tend to end up w/ a very smooth face, when re-milled......... and you would loose the nice texture that Slighter is known for.

I've got to say I'm a huge fan of a good Black Oxide Service [bOS] oil can finish.

 

The "Pro Plating" you're referring to would be Putter Plating in my best guess. Kevin Colbert is the one to talk to there. Not sure he does an oil can though...I stick to BOS for that.
