Anyone have any experiences with the Yonex ADX Tour Forged Irons?? I have heard from a few people that they are really nice forged cavity back as they appear to be simular to the long irons in a set of 731PM's that I have but this set is forged. Its really tuff to find any info on them. the 10 reviews on them on GolfReview are all perfect. I've been looking for lofts and specs on them but can't find anything. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yonex ADX Tour forged irons, Yonex Tour forged irons, or Yonex Super ADX Tour forged irons??? Worlds of difference between the three sets. ADX Tour was the first set with minimal offset throughout the set. Softest forged iron ever produced with the best graphite iron shaft ever made including anything available today (LTB_400). Tour forged irons were next (what phil played) they had a progressive offset that wasn't appealing if you owned a set of the originals (still had the same soft feel and great graphite shaft). The Super ADX Tour forged irons were next and they were hideously HUGE versions of the second design. They were not as soft and since they changed to a cheaper lousy graphite shaft they suffered many shaft fractures with that huge head. The last attempt Yonex made to get back their fine forged reputation was with the Rekin 10 forged irons that looked very similar to the Tours but they still had a cheap graphite shaft in them. Since then Yonex has kind of gone backwards in players clubs sticking mostly to game improvement stuff which hasn't sold anywhere. They do have a new forging this year with steel that looks OK but since no one carries Yonex anymore (a few drivers here and there) there has been no demo sets.

I played the 1st ones...indeed soft as butter...The woods were fantastic..still remember the dark green small headed Tour head... only problem I keep chipping the graphite off the face.

Woods : Callaway Razr TA, Titleist F3-05
Hybrid : Adams LSP XTD
Irons : Fourteen TC910 3&4I, Nike VRProCombo 5-PW
Wedges : Fourteen RM-11 54/60

Yeah the green one that was shaped like a persimmon headed driver with matching geen shaft (phil played that one as well). While the ADX Tour (black graphite) drivers with the cobra like scallops was among the longest drivers of the day (including steel and first mizuno ti driver ---ti1200) due to the fact that the graphite face produced less spin off the face they always faced the problem of after a couple of seasons the face started to fray. Yonex was always great on replacing them however---probably what drove them away from graphite heads.

I played the Yonex Super ADX Titanium Driver, it was the first titanium driver I played. When I put the True Temper EI-70 low torque shaft in it (way ahead of its time) - the thing was AMAZING - I mean 10 -15 yards longer then anything else I hit out at that time. This driver was before COR testing, but I have a gut feeling that this driver had a COR way above the .83 limit of today.

I cried for a month when I caved the face in on that pupppy - it took like 2 years to find another driver that felt as good.

It was LTB-600 gold shaft for american edition and grey for japan edition.

I couldn't agree more that this set up are one of the best ever. I had my moment that made people's jaw drop. LOL! :idhitit:

I still have the 2 iron Japan issue as my collection. :D

I don't know what forging process or metal they used but I can remember one time that I hit a rock about the size of a penny and it rolled two grooves up into the face of the club. After grinding and rescoring I just gave up and ordered a replacement. Yes indeed it was the LTB-600 shaft as I found some pictures as well. The greatest thing about the iron shafts was the consistency throughout the set (which is the fault with todays and other years graphite shafts in irons---you'll get one that is real torquey or stiffer). The only other company that had a shaft that was also good was Diawa in their DG 201 forgings--they were a muscle back that looked a little more traditional than the yonex cavity backs. Both were much softer than any forging today and were as good as some of the old MacGregors from the mid 60s.
