My boss has Honma complete set

Irons are gold color and driver is gold color as well.

I asked him once how much it costed him but he did not answer me.

I suspect he spent about $10k but he is ok golfer even though he plays about

3 to 4 times a week and series of lessons

I say waste of money but some people have more money than sense

my dad plays the Maruman 35th anniversary Majesty set. i think it costed him a ridiculous $95k HKD (approx) once all was said and done. 3 wedges, 5-9iron, 7,5,3, driver. it was the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. the shafts play REALLY SOFT. the clubs don't feel as good as a forged set, and they're meant for GAME IMPROVEMENT. thick soles, topline, a lot of offset.

and my playing partner plays a Honma set, he's pretty decent golfer. Honma makes some quality stuff, but they're priced pretty high. his "twin marks" set of players irons costed him $30k HKD 6 years ago if that means anything.

IMO, neither Honma or Majesty sets are worth the high prices. you could get a set of Epons for a quarter the price with better quality and built to your specs

I cannot say it is a waste because quality does come from a price but I also beleive you have to be an idiot to pay for those if your are NOT rich.

These irons do not count since they are WAAY TOO MUCH to be bought for performance ONLY. but with $1000 dollar sets in US markets now those are worth every penny but these are for the "Frivalous"

Oh and if I bought those....They better be hand made and hand delivered....for that price I want them carrying it to me :)

...and wash my car while your in town anyways

Japanese Bling.

+1

You have to understand those companies target silver hair population

They are in position where they can easily spend money to get that status.

They like to get more recognition by what they drive and play with not their handicaps

If I had that much money, I would go to golf school to get better lessons and have custom fitted

by top notch fitters like Dana Shaw in Warner Robinson, GA (who was on the Golfdigest equipment issue)

Getting tired buying stuffs from the rack or ebay not knowing if that will ever work for me

there is a reason you dont see tour players using them...

Lian Wen-Chang played last years Masters with a set of Honma irons and you can find a few sets being played on the LPGA but in general, they don't promote on the PGA or European Tour.

The question is what makes these worth 6K? Are they made out of gold? I bet there is a little markup on these.

Actually yes! Honma have made a few sets of irons with some sort of gold lining. Not sure if this makes any difference other than making them that little bit more exclusive.

As someone mentioned earlier, these clubs are meant for the executive market. There are plenty of rich Japanese businessmen (and Donald Trump) who will purchase these clubs. If they've got the money, who are we to complain? Honma do occasionally release a "players" iron but they predominantly focus on the GI market.

wow, sounds like a lot of poor folks whining in this thread.

although these don't appeal to me but who cares, there's obviously a market for these.

people are so quick to label someone as an idiot. sheesh!

if you have to ask if these are worth it, then they aren't.

i respect everyone's opinions but it's always the same population of guys worrying about headcovers, expensive equipment, collar up or down, ribbed grips, etc..

Some of those premium Japanese clubs are built with 24K gold plates. And they are built for the guys with $. They don't just sell in Japan. I have seen these expansive clubs in many countries outside Japan.

Worth it or not?

How about a standard Rolex watch vs. Rolex with diamonds? Is the Rolex with diamonds tell better time?

Do you call those who wear Rolex with diamonds idiots?
