O.K., you are 12 ahead of your buddy who sux, he says, "let's make this interesting. How about 20 bucks on the last 5 holes, best score???" I had been kicking his &$@* all day, and he ends up taking 3 of 5 holes to win. I still beat him by 6 strokes for the round, but he beat me when it counted.

As much stock as I put into golf, this is frustrating. Talk about putting a kink in your day. Just to describe this guy's game, think of a 70 year old man's swing in the body of a 30 year old. The guy clearly needs Senior Flex, because he honestly swings about 80 mph with a driver. He beats me with his short game, keeps it in the fairway (albiet he drives 80 yards with his 3 wood), and he putts a little better. I can drive a ball 250 average and my long was 280, but driving doesn't get you anywhere if you can't ulitize other facets of the your game.

It really makes me sick. Everything about the guy makes me feel sorry for him, I mean he still uses his old TaylorMade Burner irons, the original Rescue, he owns no driver, and he uses an old rusted Top Flight putter, he dresses in a Maroon texas a&m shirt, wears a gray Titleist aggie hat, and wears white golf shoes with knee high basketball socks pushed down a bit. Just looking at him, it appears this guy is a push over, but I guess looks can be deceiving.

If this sounds tacky, it's not meant to, I'm just a poor loser/sport. I love my friend. He really not all that nerdy. He sure is a punk.

Let's just call him lucky. I have no doubt in my mind that he can play under pressure, he has done it quite a few times, but here's the shot progression:

1. pulls out the 3 wood, he hits a ballooning shot going left for a 90 yd drive.

2. pulls out the original rescue, he hits a low boring shot for 180 yards.

3. 75 yards from hole he blades it, it hits a soft area that takes some speed off the ball and it lands 10 ft from the hole.

4. Pars the hole.

Here's me:

1. 250 yard straight as an arrow.

2. Pull out the 4 wood and put it on the edge of the green, on the sloping side, it rolls off and goes into the water.

3. I hit my 55* wedge over the green...just barely

4. I blade it goes over the green

5. I chip in for a 6

Miserable. I am not that bad of a player.

I was trying to describe the kind of day I had. Throw out the yardages.

I think this is part of what makes golf great and different from any sport I've ever played. Someone told me when I first started out, "The driving range is nothing like an actual round of golf, and a casual round of golf is nothing like competitive golf."

Have you read anything by Bob Rotella?

It sounds like you're fundamentally a pretty sound golfer, so I don't know if taking another lesson is going to help as lot. I'd say the biggest key to improving under pressure is pretty much between your ears at this point. If you haven't already, I'd read Golf is not a Game of Perfect. It emphasizes the importance of routine during pressure situations and how to handle mistakes so they don't snow ball. A very good read and one that will help all facets of your game.

I've been reading, "How to Break 90" the author slips my mind. He really paints a good picture.....trust me I could use a few lessons.

Golf is a great sport and it sucks that the inferior still have a chance. It's about breaks and who gets them. It's funny to me how a mishit worm burner can beat you.

LOL, like Harry Vardon said, “Some people have a talent for luck. It’s a skill, you see, like any other. Maybe the most useful of all.”
