Bushnell Tour V2

I am close to purchasing one of these....please give any thoughts if you have used one.

Also, if purchased, is it worth or needed to get the slope edition? I am assuming so for me because I play on a fairly hilly course.

And lastly, where can I get the best deal for this.

V2 is my favorite of any that I have used. I like the way you hold it better than Medalist and the 1500/1600 TE. I personally would not buy the slope if you plan to play any tournaments where range finders will be legal.

I'm considering the same model and I've read several posts about the Scout 1000 (the "hunter's version") being identical, albeit slightly cheaper. I did notice the Scout was cheaper than the V2 at Bass Pro Shops (surprising?). So, if they are the same then maybe look at those type shops for a cheaper alternative. I can't figure out if the Scout 1000 has a pinseeker-type mode or not, though. Anyone else know?

Yes, the Scout 1000 has the pinseeker mode. It's called target mode on the Scout. Both perform the same function. It displays the distance to the closest target (pin) that it ranges. Walmart.com has the Scout for $212. Tour V2 is $349 with $50 rebate offer. You can get the Tour V2 for about $270 on ebay, but probably won't be able to get the rebate. I've used the Scout 1000 for golf alot and it works very well. You're not getting anything extra with the V2 except a slightly different case with the V2 logo.

personally, i prefer my old 1500 (no slope) to the v2, but if you are set on the smaller size, you will likely want to check out some of the other units out there like the new callaways or even leupolds -

Just curious as to why you like the 1500 better than the v2? I liked the 1500 but I really think the v2 is a better unit.

i just prefer having more magnification in the viewfinders (my vision isnt what it used to be), and from what i could tell in using the two, the 1500 is much better at picking out the pin at distances vs the v2. having said that, if you just care about how far to the pin when you are within ~200 yards, then the v2 is fine. sometimes i try to do a little advance planning even if i cant reach the green.

the 1500 certainly is heavier (i dont know how much it weighs), but the extra weight doesnt bother me - if you like a light bag though, then for sure you will want to check out the v2 (or leupold or callaway)

As do I. My V2 is everything I'd ever need in a rangefinder. I prefer the 5x magnification to the 8x that I had in my Nikon because it's actually easier to hold or sweep the target with less shake. That plus the smaller, lighter size and lower price makes it an easy winner over the 1500 for me.

I really proved out some the advantages of the laser vs. the GPS this week. I played a Nicklaus course in Anaconda, Montana called The Old Works. Even though the course was well marked, with accurate 6 position pin sheets, the greens were large enough that guesstimating with a GPS (we had both GPS and laser with us) sometimes left us as much as 10 to 15 yards off with the GPS. That is a huge difference, from a club to a club and a half. When you are shooting uphill and can't see the bottom of the flagstick, estimating the actual location on a GPS is impossible, while the laser got it perfectly every time. We did use the GPS a lot to get quick distances for hazards, etc., but for approach shots, the laser was the ticket.
