Slower Swing Speed with X golf balls?

GolfChannel

Recommended Posts

I was curious if anyone else with a human swing speed has had the experience of harder golf balls such as the ProV1X going longer for them than the regular ProV1 or the Z Star? My local club pro gave me a sleeve of them today, and where as I normally average 235 yards on my drives I was averaging 260 yards on the holes that I used the ProV1X. I average dmy normal 235 when I put the ProV1 or the Z-Star into play.

I only swing my driver in the 88 to 95 mph range. I'm also pretty short with my irons, but this has more to do with the fact that I'm in the middle of a swing change and I don't create any lag with my irons, but I do with my woods and driver.

Thanks ahead of time...

i have had the same situation recently and don't have an answer...technically, im not compressing much with my slower ss....i was given some nike one platinums and nike one blacks....i have a slightly slower swing speed than you and the black went further than the platinum.....i could be wrong on those balls though...but i do know that the prov1x is slightly longer for me than the prov1 also....i don't know what to say except i like the feel of the nike one platinum and prov1 better than the one black and prov1x...so i don't mind losing a little distance and i also like the spin.....

but in all honesty...i can't justify the price of prov1's...so i play bridgestone e5+, srixon ad333, and TM burner tp on any given day.

I didn't know if I compressed the ball just enough to see some benefits out of the ball. I always hit the center of the face, and I work really hard on being able to work the ball both ways.

As far as off of the irons it was still great and I could feel the ball compressing. I didn't know if I was the exception, because I'm a digger and I really compress pretty much any ball into the turf. I even got the X to back up on 3 holes, where as with my regular golf ball the Z-Star it just lands and sits.

I'm short with the irons, because at the moment I don't really **** my wrists at all in the back swing with my irons. I'm working on geting some bend back into my iron swing, but whenever I try I start to spray it. When I prevent my wrists from going past 90 degrees I hit the ball about 20 yards shorter per club but what I gain in accurracy is amazing.

Ok now heres the thing just because your swing speed doesn't match the ball doesn't mean other necessary characteristics that this ball offers arent gonna help your distance as in launch and spin

As for platinum vs black there isn't a compression difference theres a spin difference meaning one will spin more ( the platinum)

I think it varies a lot from ball to ball. My SS is 95-100. The original V1x was horrible didn't work for me at all, especially with irons. OTH, the V1x from the generation just previous to the current balls (I've not tried the 09 V1x) was fine. The Tour iX is very good for me. The Srixon star works well for me but the star x not so much. The TM Red and Black both seem to work well for a range of swing speeds, I prefer the Red. The B330s works pretty well for me, the B330 not so well. The Cally Tour iX and TM TP Red seem to work better for me than any other balls I've tried. Probably also depends on a person's angle of attack, etc. Just don't think one can generalize about swing speed for the "x" class balls.

i have 95mph swing also and just swiched to callaways new diablo ball from v1x, for me its longer off driver (10yds) and stops more consistantly off the wedges, right around ball mark, so far no worries about backing one off the green. sad thing was i have been strictly a v1x guy for years and wouldnt have tried a ball like the diablo but my pro gave me a sleeve and said just try it.

SS is in the 87 to 92 range and I find I get better distance with the X balls. Even though I'm generally a Srixon guy, I must admit to a particular liking of the new Nike One Tour D and last year's Nike One Black. But, on the other hand, I find no difference in distance with last year's Srixon tour balls and, in fact, prefer the Srixon Z-URS to the supposedly longer Z-URC. I believe that all of this illustrates that there are no hard and fast rules at play here, just generalizations about SS and ball types. You gotta try 'em all and choose the ones that feel right and perform the best regardless of designation.

Good point, I completely forgot about that issue...I think it's still in the bathroom.
