Suggestions on new golf ball???

Hi guys,

 

A little bout my game and swing... I'm 16.8 handi, swing speed is in the high 80's low 90's. I'm looking for a ball that will give me higher ball flight and carry distance as I struggle getting some height on my mid and long irons. I hit a pretty straight ball sometimes slight draw.. If I make a mistake its a push right (don't really slice much) This year I've hit the Bridgestone e5 (older e5 not e5+) and the Maxfli Noodle+ Long and Soft. I don't spin the ball excessively, but I liked the e5's ability to hop and stop on short wedge shots and short pitches. Noodle had a tendency to roll more once it hit green.

 

In summary, looking for ball that will go higher and carry my irons further, and has some bite on the greens. Soft feel is a plus.

 

Based upon reviews on this forum I was thinking of trying several balls. After reading reviews, I'm confused if the Burner or Burner TP would be a better ball for me. Which has a higher ball flight and which is softer?

 

1) Taylormade Burner

2) Taylormade Burner TP

3) Nike PD Soft

4) e5+ or e6+

 

Other suggestions are definitely welcome!

I would really recommend the E5+, they are made to do about exactly what your looking for.

The e6+ is made to go far, but reduce spin so it wouldn't fit what you are looking for. And i am almost positive the Burner is made to do about the same thing as the E6+. The burner TP would be the one that spins more.

thanks for the reply! has anyone compared the ball flight of the e5+ to the burner tp? if the burner tp has similar ball flight characteristics, i might give it a try. many said the regular burner had a high ball flight too, thats why im confused.

a vote here for the E5+, urethane cover and a very soft feeling ball. As for the Burner TP and the Burner. The TP is a 3 piece ball and the Burner is a 2 piece. the TP is a higher spin lower launch and the Burner is higer launch, lower spin. It all depends on what you need. With your swing speed, you will probably benefit from a higher launch ball. Between the TP and E5+, they react in a similar manner. Just depends on how you like the feel off your wedges.

on the other hand the burner tp is a higher spin lower launch compared to the burner regular.

I have a similar driver ss and have played all your options except e6+ and burner. Note that the PD soft is not the 09 version. My thoughts after playing each for at least 5 rounds.

In terms of launch angle,
1) e5+ (highest)
2) pd Soft
3) burner TP (but very close to the pd Soft)

In terms of soft feel,
1) pd Soft (softest)
2) burner TP
3) e5+

I would say try out the e5+ as it sounds closest to what you want without giving up control around the green. Might want to try some of the tour balls as well if you are not losing more than 2 balls a round.

The tp is supposed to be for higher swing speeds, that's why its higher spin and lower launch. when playing the burner, with a slower swing speed, you can still get a higher launch without fear of too much sidespin.

but with the e5, a person with a slower swing speed can still experience the feel of a tour ball. the e6 is supposed to help correct sidespin, thus the lower spin rate.

If you play a straight ball and have a swing speed from mid-80s to low 90s, use the e5, you'll really enjoy the benefits around the greens

Play a $20 box of the gamers. I played one today and was impressed... I am not giving up my ProVs for them or anything, but they are really nice. It was better off of my driver and irons than any Taylor Made that I have ever hit and equal to a Callway. It was a little firm with the putter, but still OK.

I really like the B330, so the E5 is probably good too, but never played one.

Off topic, but if you want to get height on your mid and long irons, just walk to the range with just your 3 iron and hit 100 balls with it. This will do more for your game than a ball will.
