the best part of these threads is that all of these clubs can still be found in ciruclation amongst tour and good players bags, except for the drivers. it's amazing how that works, the never ending search to max out distance off the tee.

It's amazing what a hodge-podge these guys bags are. You'd expect neat sets of clubs, 1,3,5 woods, 3-PW, SW, LW, etc. But instead, you see this odd mix of D, 3w, 7w, 2i, 4i-PW, SW1, SW2, etc.

You can tell that these guys carry clubs based on what they need, not what the set prescribes, and that's a good lesson for us all. I carry a 3 wood, and a cut down 4 wood, then a 3 iron. I also carry a 48° PW, 53° SW, and 60° LW. So, my sand wedge is almost a gap wedge too, but I don't really use it as such, I use the 53 and the 60 as sand wedges both, and the 53 because it has less bounce than most 54-56 sand wedges.

Wow, I still have my Titleist 990-B irons from 2001. Great sticks at the time but I don't play enough to keep up with them anymore. I can appreciate how the pros played with equipment that worked for them and not necessarily the latest and greatest of the time. Nowadays, more and more pros play the newest equipment just because... Thanks for the vintage shots.

I gotta say I like the way these guys put their bags together. The older the bag the more interesting.

The club sponsors have pretty much sanitized the current bags which I consider a real pity.

How true. My wedges, my irons, my woods, etc. They all can be different, as long as they fit my game. I don't even need to have the manufaturers headcovers. My bag is plain black, and I often use plain headcovers.

Now days, however, with the strict limits being set by the USGA on COR, size, and other things, each company makes pretty much the same clubs.

My Tommy Armours, for example, are unique (they're about 15 years old, I can't determine which year they are). They have their own look and feel. Modern irons all have different looks, but they all sort of just are big forged blades or deep cast cavity backs.

But this kind of levels the playing field, cause unfortunately, the more vanilla the equipment, the less it factors in to the score.

I used to play those Orlimar FWs back then too, I thought they were incredible at the time, especially the 3 wood. And I played those Maxfli irons that Allenby had in his bag too. I wish I had never got rid of them, great iron, clean blade appearance, almost no offset, and pretty good forgiveness....

I still have the Orlimar's somewhere in my garage tho......
