Help me identify this putter.

Hello everyone, I recently switched from a Scotty Cameron Studio Select 2.7 to a Ping Anser 2. The only problem I have, is that I don't know which Anser 2 I have. I will include pictures, and I greatly appreciate anyone who can give me information concerning which model of Ping's it is.

I also noticed that there was a bolt and a screw that went through a part of the shaft. I removed them, so now there is just a hole in the middle of the shaft. Can anyone tell me why the bolt and screw were there. I included a picture of the hole.

Was the bolt and screw a cheap attempt at adding weight???

PING uses the Anser 2 as their fitting putter. Accounts that choose to have PING's putter fitting system would get a set of them with different lie angles and lengths. Each putter in this fitting set had a bolt throught the shaft. Yours was likely a fitting putter.

I've looked at the photos and have determined that it is a Ping Anser 2.

My imagination says that some Larry the Cable Guy-looking hoosier deciding to drill the shaft and stick a lag bolt in 'er so she's more stout is a more acceptable answer.

This is the classic stainless Anser 2 they have made forever. I'm not sure what year PING started using Anser 2s for their fitting putter, but I know they didn't start color coding them until sometime around 2000. Maybe someone can confirm or correct that. I may be off by a year to two. All classic PING putters with "2" in the name, are stainless steel. (Zing2, Pal2, and so on.) This putter is less than 9 years old and likely to be newer than that.

Why would they put a bolt? Wouldn't that change feel and balance from what you are actually trying to sell?

I've put 5 gram tips on the ends of putter shafts and noticed a change in feel.

It's a very tiny bolt and it sits pretty close to the fulcrum of a swing weight scale. It makes virtually no difference. It's a fitting tool not an Anser 2 promotional tool even if it did.

Re-igniting an oldie here...

I just came across and scooped up what appears to be the same putter as the OP. mine is a black dot, has the hole in the shaft (no bolts/weights) and it has a grip that says 'Ping 34' on the butt. On the top of the grip there are hash marks and the numbers 1 and 2.

Since its almost certainly a fitting putter does that mean the head is an actual Anser 2?

Is anyone able to put a date and or value on it? Mine clearly has not been on the course. It's in really good shape.

Models followed by 2 are not all stainless steel, I have owned several "2" designated putters in Nickel, Copper, MgBr and SS.
