Has anyone realized mizuno copied titleist

The phil mickelson irons that titleist made for him had cut muscle backs on the mid irons. And those came out well before the Mp 32's. I am surprized that no lwsuit has been filed yet.

Look back to the 70's and every muscle back iron today is decendant of them. Refinements are always appreciated though. :golfer:

Exactly Mac. I was just thinking how the new Titleist 695's look so much like some of the old Wilson Dynapowers and also share a little similarity with the Staff Tour Blades. If you think about it, other then the toe shape or length heel to toe, there's not much you can do with a muscle back to make it look much different then what has already been done.

it must be like the hi bore, because the hi bore shape was first used by spalding i believe. So titleist has the first cut murcle and mizuno perfects it.

i remember bullet golf used to have something like a cut muscle and wilson's gooseneck blades also had a similar concept in the 80's.

Check out the 6 iron in the picture. The mid irons on the PM's have that concave area where the Titleist script is. It's probably easier to tell if you've seen the set in person. Pmhacker/Russ pulls his set out of the closet every so often when we're out for a round.

Actually if you talk to people "in the Know" they will tell you that Titelist copies almost all of their irons from Mizuno, and has for years. Mizuno is the leader in Forged technology and Titelist copies a lot of their designs. Titelist copied the MX-23, Mp-32 and I am sure has a version of the MP-60 on the way not to mention their blades as well. Titelist needs to quit paying their tour players so much and start developing thier own stuff, the PRO V1 wasnt even theirs.

the thing is many of the MB blades from today are slight variations from yesteryears Macgregor TA silver scotts and wilson staff/dynapower.

Virtually every forged iron in the muscle back configuration can be found in a 50s, 60s golf catalog of MacGregor, Wilson, Spalding in that order of Xeroxing. The only difference between then and now is the hosels are shorter due to better glues which can put the weight behind the ball and metal used is inferior (quality wise) to the metal used in those days. Plus very few use copper underlayment anymore which added to the soft feel. Today we use nickel--much harder feeling. So before everyone starts the Titleist copied Mizuno, Nike copied Titleist (for Tiger) boring scenario remember Mizuno is the original copier of all. By next year there won't be even much guessing as to where a forged iron is done. 1. Endo (all over the world), 2. Mizuno, 3. Miura. That will account for 95% of the forged market.

I agree. There is only so much you can do with a muscleback.

yep.....there are only so many things you can do to a muscleback.....weight high, mid or low and a few cutaways....to me the cutaway looks like the bullet backs....but the mizuno mp32s are super nice and forgiving....the external design might not be that new but the performance is super !!!!!
