MP 60 or X Tour

Coming from MP 30
I am looking to switch to an iron that is a little more forgiving than the MP 30. I have hit both the MP60 and X tours in a net and both feel very solid. What are the differeces in the ball flights between the two. As for people who have hit the X tours, how much does the bounce on these clubs really come into play.
Thanks

I looked at the Mp-60's before I bought my X-Tours last year. Both are really nice sticks and you won't go wrong with either but I will tell you that I am hitting the ball more solidly now than I ever have, I'm hitting the ball further and playing a natural high draw. I don't try to work the ball that much anymore but I do play my natural shot shape all the way down through my 9 iron. The bounce hasn't been an issue for me at all and if you compare them side by side to some other player irons I think you will be surprised at how similar they are. In some cases, the X tours actually have less sole width. Remember the trailing edge of the sole is ground away. It's effectove only for the notch weighting which equals more forgiveness.

My hc has dropped 4 strokes and I'm striking the ball better now than I ever have (woods and irons) and have worked hard on my short game and putting all winter so I fully expect to drop another 2 or 3 strokes, maybe more. So far I've shot my lowest rounds from last year twice already (1 over 73). I can confidently tell you that I don't think I wold be playing this well with blades.

Tough choice but YOU will be the winner no matter which you choose.

Good luck.

Even though I play the X-Tours----I don't think you would be happy coming from the MP-30 feel to the X-Tour feel. The MP-60s are a definite improvement over the MP-30s and retain the Mizuno soft feel. The only negative about them is the largeish wedge.

having both sets currently in my armoury = x tours with 5.5 flighted rifles and mp 60,s with black gold reg

feel i can comment on both sets - x tours feel a very powerful club but there is a problem with the bounce

if you do not take ball then divot then a chance of a thin is very high .. class club in all other ways.

mp60,s are a different club - when struck correctly they are smooth as butter especially with

the black gold shaft - you can feel your way to the pin with these - like all clubs get properly fit :)

The MP-30s are 'harder to play' with than the MP-60s and have a slightly harsher feel - I always found the 30s harder to play with than my beloved MP-33 blades. Agree that the 60 is an all round improvement on the 30 in just about every respect - although still think the 30 is a nicer looking iron from an asthetic perspective. I would err on the side of the MP-60 as your possible preferred replacement purely from a feel point of view - any forged Mizuno product is ahead of the field in this respect. Have a set of X-Tours with DG S300s and although a nice iron, I can't clip it away clean from a tight lie as easily as I can with the MP-60s - although one can't deny that the X-Tours are an eminently playable set. The X-Tours also hit the ball higher with the same shaft in comparison to the MP-60s. All in all, there would be only one choice for me - MP-60s. Anyway, as an incorrigable club ho (it surely must be a recognised illness) I'll hang onto both sets just for the hell of having them in my collection - but Mizuno always rules in the end.

I agree completely, and I have some experience since I played the x tours all last season. I had the worst season I can remember and my ball striking was horrible. My last round was an 84 for *###'s sake! Eventually sold them off cheap. Now also in the market either for mp60s or a split 32 and 60 set.

Can anyone confirm the rumours that Mizuno is set to launch a new spilt set this year under the name mp80??

I own both sets, and they are both very nice. For me, both sets give a similar trajectory. The X-Tours hit the ball slightly shorter than the MP-60s, but are noticably more forgiving. Distance control with the X-Tours is particularly good. The MP-60s feel/sound better at impact, but the X-Tours produce better scores. In fact, all my best scores last year (two PBs and a handful of rounds in the 60's) came with the X-Tours.

I have read about the so-called bounce issue. I have played the X-Tours on everything from sloppy sod to rock hard fairways and just don't see any problem with them. I think their sole design--with the slightly rounded bottom and trailing edge relief--is outstanding. Fairway or rough, the X-Tours go through the ground exceptionally well. They give you the forgivness of a wide sole and the versativlity of a narrow sole.

The MP-60s are definitely sexy irons. They look great in the bag and behind the ball, and feel greta when you hit them solidly. But when it comes to playabilty on the course, the nod goes to the X-Tours.

I can say from experience that the mp 60 is a excellent upgrade from the mp 30.my cousin uses the mp 30,and he tried mine on the course last friday, and could tell the difference in forgiveness.
