CLEAN set up.

FInd it intersting that you have a whiteboard in the driver yet play 5.5's
I had 6.0s in the S57s and wanted to try a slightly softer shaft, in part, to attempt to slow my swing down a little. It's nothing like I used to, but I'm old now and need to slow down a little as it's killing my back. Don't laugh, you'll get here one day. ;)

Not sure of the results yet, as I'm now fighting a tendency to viciously hook the ball that I didn't have with the 6.0s. I'm trying to delay the release of my hands to compensate.
Oh man, those irons are gorgeous. Love them! Are they much better than the S57? I have been considering them and I haven't made a decision yet. Did you try Titleist MB 710 too? Like the Project X shafts?
The 710 MBs weren't out yet, and while not bad, the AP2s and MP58s didn't have the feel I was looking for. I wanted something that felt as good as my old fg-17s, but didn't beat me up on slight mishits. The 68s don't forgive thin hits like the s57s, but I rarely do that. My miss is usually 1/4 to 1/2 of a ball towards the toe, and with the 68s that usually means a slight decrease in distance but pretty close to online. With the S57s I found myself having to look at the face of the club to see if I mishit the shot, because I couldn't tell from the impact.

The big difference for me is the fact that it takes much less manipulation of the 68s to get the desired ball flight, and the thinner/contoured sole cuts through better without digging excessively. (I have a rather vertical swing and can be classed a digger). And the big seller is the soft feel of these things. I know, it's been beat to death, but the sound/feel of these things... :D

Lucky Guy!!!

Hi from sunny South Africa - East London on the South East Coast.

I have also had the 57's and 52's (did not like the undercut cavity on the5 2) and know play the 62's. As per is Mizuno's norm, I had only bought the 62's for a couple of months and they brought out the 58's and 68's -
Hey was I cross!!!

I started playing with blades in the mid 70's and, having not played too regularly over the past 10 years or so, I thought that the semi-blades (hence the MP57, 52 and 62) would be better for me than the old 67's, having said this I still yearn to play true blades and the 68's look superb.

I was at our local driving range on Saturday and bought an old set of MacGregor Muirfield blades just for fun. I have not heard of these sticks, but judging by what I have read on the Web they are top notch irons, I paid the equivalent of $50 for these and it would seem that I have made an absolute bargain.

Are the 68's no more difficult than the 57's? I loved the 57 and only changed because of the hype over the newer Mizuno's.

In the bag:

Taylormade R9 09 - Fujikura Motore 65 Stiff Flex
Tour Edge Exotics 3 Wood - Fujikora HLS Stiff Flex
Taylormade TP rac 2 Iron - Rifle FCM 6.5
Mizuno MP 62 3-PW - DG S300
53,56 and 60 Mizuno MPT Wedges - DG S300 (depending on the wind I play either the 2 iron or the 60 wedge)
Odyssey Rossie II Putter
Titleist NXT Tour or Srixon AD333

Mizunohacker send us Durbanites some sunshine!!! Its just constant rain here.... Iv also got the MP68's so I think I can help you out a little here. Pro's: They look fantastic, feel fantastic and are very easy to hit in terms of blades, sure mishits will be penalised but not severely. I was playing Cleveland CG reds (I would say they are the same category as the 57's) before these and I would say that the mizuno's are on a par in the forgiveness department, even the 68 3 iron is easy to use... Cons: None:) Hope that helps.

Comparing my friend's 57s to my 68s: The 68s 'feel' a little better, to me, and I find the thinner sole helps considerably. I also find the 3 iron quite easy to hit, having stuck my 3 hybrid that I used with the Pings in the closet for now.

All in all, I think these are easier to control than my s57s, feel MUCH better, and look pretty good to boot. I might have gone too soft on the shafts, but that just requires some tweaks on my part. Gonna play them today! :D

Hey Man, I hope the rain goes away before the test match on Saturday. Weather here is pretty kak today as well - overcast.

Where abouts in Durbs do you play? the closest I've been to playing in KZN was at the Wild Coast a few years ago. I normally play at Gonubie (as I live abourt a 5 iron away) but also play at EL golf club and West Bank, have you played these courses? Stunning sea views and also cheap.

I have chatted to Rhys Hughes at the Pro Shop vis a vis the 68's and, instead of spending another 9 grand (which my wife won't like!!), I have asked him to find me a set of 33's or 32's, have you tried these sticks?

Whilst my current irons are so called "players" sticks (MP 62's) I started with blades when I was around 13 and am really keen to get back to them. Unlike most of my mates, I feel more confident with a blade and find the modern day game improvement sticks quite ugly, I am also sure that anyone with a half decent swing will improve their game if they play with "proper" irons.

Have you heard of the Macgregor Muirfield's that I recently bought for a couple of hundred Rand? Seems like they are (were) very good irons, I have not played them yet, but will post when I do.

Did you check the Million Dollar and the Alfred Dunhill tournements on TV? the stunning views and the great courses made me proud to be a Saffer!!

All the best to everyone out there and have a great Christmas - to all who don't live in SA, I'll think about you when I am playing in December wearing a short sleeved golf shirt and short pants!!

In the bag:

Taylormade R9 09 - Fujikura Motore 65 Stiff Flex
Tour Edge Exotics 3 Wood - Fujikora HLS Stiff Flex
Taylormade TP rac 2 Iron - Rifle FCM 6.5
Mizuno MP 62 3-PW - DG S300
53,56 and 60 Mizuno MPT Wedges - DG S300 (depending on the wind I play either the 2 iron or the 60 wedge)

You're OLD? Really? You sound like a teenager. :scare2::tongue:

I think you're hooking the ball because you're 3.5 degrees up, so your toe is up, and thus the face is shutting down at impact. You need to bend it back flat, probably.

Or, you need to do this more:

Man, the weather's been pretty bad here lately. 40s and 50s. Monday should be closer to norm (60) and I'm looking forward to playing a full round again. Played a new (to me) little par-3 course up in Glendale, AZ today with my son and a friend. Only one birdie, but only two bogies, so not bad. The company was more important than the score, for sure. :)

New putter (Bettinardi) is in the sig, pics can be seen in a thread in flatsticks (new betti thread). I didn't have it yet when I snapped these pics.

And no, I'm not heel down. S57s were 4 up, half inch over with PX 6.0s and I hit a very high soft draw with those. These shafts are softer, and moving the ball a little further left on me. If I don't swing as hard, say keep the 9 iron at 140 yds or less instead of 150, it doesn't hook as much.

I'll figure it out. Still love the new sticks!
