R5 TP Spin Rate vs. 510 TP

I have been playing the 510 TP (Speeder 757 stiff) for almost two years and absolutely love it. Then I am offered a R5 TP with the diamana for a deal that I couldnt pass up. I especially wanted to try the diamana shaft because I have heard so many good things about it. Ok to make a long story short the R5 seems to balloon and create alot more spin than the 510 TP with the same loft.

 

Has anyone else had these issues?

Do I have the weights incorrectly distributed?

Sad to say, you've gone from one of the lowest spinning heads to a mid spinning head (the 540 and R7HT are the high spinners). Changing the weights won't help lower your spin rate. A shaft change could help, but that's a whole different can of worms.

 

If you want something more akin to the 510, go with the standard deep face R7 TP (which you can get for a song these days). Might be one of the lowest spinning heads ever made. Also, the 905S, and Bridgestone j33R and J33R 460 are low spin heads.

This low spinning head stuff sometimes gets blown out of proportion. Low spinning heads aren't good for the majority of golfers because they can't keep the ball in the air long enough to get enough distance. Unless you have a very high swingspeed, a low spinning head will rob you of distance. I haven't heard of many problems with the R5 TP with Diamana ballooning? I have one and its the longest hitting driver I ever hit. I never had a ballooning issue with this club and I have higher than average swingspeed. Maybe you developed a swing issue? Or maybe you have a very high swingspeed that doesn't match the head? Try tipping the shaft if the flex is right for you. It might take care of any ballooning issues you are experiencing with the R5 TP. The R5 TP is definitely not a high spinning head.

Diamana will help keep spin down versus the 757

I was just on a monitor with my 10.5 R5tp with Diamana redboad and I'm getting a consistant 3000 spin and 12-13 launch. No ballooning at all, the ball lands and jumps forward like crazy. My swing speed in only 95 but Joe K set it up with a stiff and it's great :) Love the combo.
