e5 vs AD333

I searched and could not find any direct comparisons between the two most talked about 2-piece balls on this forum.

Not having played either of these on the course (only hit into nets and putted), I found some test data for both:

Driver Distance @ 90mph swing (Golf Magazine 2008): e5+ 252 yds AD333 249.9 yds

Compression (golfballselector.com): e5+ 97/95 AD333 78/78

Cover Hardness (golfballselector.com): e5+ 79 AD333 83

What have people found that have played both of these? Which has better:

Driver distance & spin?

Iron distance & spin?

Greenside spin & feel?

Putter feel?

I am currently gaming the Pro V1 (2007) and NXT Tour. Comparisons to these?

Hey Storm,

I tried both this year, and I can comment as follows:

Driver distance & spin? AD333 both straighter and longer for me, with better feel

Iron distance & spin? e5+ could gain much more spin (both back AND side), though 1/2 club shorter on approach (mainly in the roll department, not carry)

Greenside spin & feel? e5+ had better spin, AD333 had better feel. I was more aggressive with the e5+, whereas I bumped and ran more with the AD333.

Putter feel? e5+ was nicer to putt with, though I do use a non-insert putter. AD333 wasn't bad though for an ionomer cover ball.

On one other note, the AD333 is much more durable than the e5+ - I found that the e5+ scarred a lot easier (to the point where I would take it out of play) versus the AD333.

If I was to pick a winner, I'd have to go with the AD333, and currently am going to use this as my regular gamer. I'm a feel golfer, and the e5+ was certainly lacking in this department.

Not a ProV player, but I have gamed the NXT. To me, the NXT is in that next class of balls (like the Nike Vapor), where it does things just a little better all around. To me, the AD333 only beats the NXT tour ball in feel and distance, where the e5+ only beats it in wedge and greenside spin. Generally those 3-piece ionomer balls seem to just deliver a good compromise all around.
