Anyone use a Golf ball sweet spot finder

Kids gave me one for Father's Day way back when....if I could have gotten it to identify the same spot on same ball at least twice would have thought more of it.

Premium golf balls (prov1 and chromesoft) sometimes had more than one axis which could mean they are closer to perfectly balanced. The cheaper 2 piece balls tended to almost always find the same axis.

My putting and scoring improved since using the axis finder and line. Could simply be due to the line or confidence the ball would roll straight. On well struck full shots the ball would normally come to rest with the line still pointing toward the target.

I realize this is an old thread, but I found it, so others will also. I have used one (checkgo) for the better part of 20 years ( can't remember exactly when I was given it for Christmas). If nothing else it gives me a sense of confidence, and who couldn't use more of that in Golf? The best part of spinning golf balls, in my opinion, is that I can spin used balls and find ones who have had the $@#& knocked out of them and are no longer "round". They will bounce all over the cup because there is no balance any more. Give these to the kids or use these crap balls on dangerous shots over water hazards.

Old thread... but this topic came up on my local golf facebook group.

My dad gifted me his old 'Sharper Image' sweet spot finder, and I gave it a go. I had to find skinny pointed sharpies to fit into the marking hole. I re-tested some balls to see if it still ended up on the same axis. My observations is that older, cheaper, or already hit balls tended to find the same axis more predictably (ie. they are more off-balance so it's easier to spin into the same sweet spot). If you have a ball that keeps finding a different axis each time you spin it... it's not a failure of the spinner... it means you have a well-balanced ball! And.... it has never ever lined up with the factory printed alignment lines.

Personally I have found my putting is more accurate using the axis line from the sweet spot marker. It very rarely wobbles unless I don't hit it square.

I use mine.

Might be all psychological, (no small thing in this game), but seems to help on drives and putts.

YMMV

2nd that.  I've had a Check Go for years and use it constantly.  One thing I will say is most frequently when I find my ball in the fairway the equator line is pointing up and down showing that the ball will rotate around its heavy point.  Personally I think it's a good idea to use a check go.  I'll mark a box of balls while watching Golf on TV.

I haven’t balanced balls since the advent of solid core multilayer urethane balls. The old liquid center wound balls had to be balanced.

I have used one for years. I tried the Srixon balls one time and out of 12 3 of them would not even stay in check in go. I never have the line on the ball match up with my line after I use the machine. Never.

To each their own.

I re-tested a few of mine during a marking session yesterday and, although I had to give it enough time to get to maximum spin.... it eventually found the exact same orientation each time.

Yes it does I totally agree with you. What I was trying to say is the line I put on the ball after the test is nowhere near the line the OEM's put on the ball to line up with...

probably the only downside to the check go is that it wears out batteries pretty quickly. I found after years of using it that you really have to have some well charged batteries to get the balls to spin at the highest speeds. and even though they tell you not to spin used balls I've done that and generally they spend along the same axis.  I found some new balls to be well balanced where when spinning them in the check go they'll create more than one line. what I mean by that is you are marking one line and then the ball jumps slightly and it doesn't come back to the same axis and so you wind up putting two lines on the ball. but for the most part overwhelmingly balls have a heavy spot and the check go picks it up.
