Maybe the point of all of this is, why doesn't TGC interrupt the Euro Tour as much as they do the PGA Tour? If your point is to make money by providing air time for advertising why not do it for both tours the same than one more than the other? Why is it we can watch endless golf in the morning versus 2-1/2 min. of golf then 6 min. of advertising in the afternoon? If The Golf Channel wants to be called The Golf Channel than maybe it should provide golf, otherwise name it The Advertising Channel.

You understand they probably sell more, and more expensive, spots for regular events vs. the early morning European Tour, and have to in order to operate? Not hard to understand. Send them a few million and I'm sure they would be able to afford not to run ads.

All comes down to eyeballs. There are many more eyeballs watching the afternoon PGA tourney than the Euro morning tourney. People act like TGC is being run arbitrarily, with no reason for any of the things that occur. There is a reason for doing most of the things they do. You might not like the thing or the reason but they don't just do things for the sake of doing them

It's really a simple fix, if it enrages you that much to watch, then turn the channel and don't watch. Simple, no?

...and that's exactly whay I did.

Those of us that are griping about TGC know how advertising works, it isn't like we were born yesterday. I find it odd that most of those who defend TGC are fine with watching more commercials and less golf coverage. Why is that? It doesn't get old to you? I guess I shouldn't presume to tell you what to do, if you like watching Cialis commercials more than actual golf, good for you.
Maybe instead of injecting commercials every other minute they should cut back on staff?!

Last year, I remember watching an LPGA event. They had a segment that was about 15 minutes long that highlighted the resort that hosted the event. I'm sure during negotiations this sounds like a good thing, giving hosts face time.
When it comes to watching the event, its gotta be the dumbest move going. Then they go to commercial.
A better idea might be to have the highlight of the resort at the beginning of the show.
People seem to forget its about the golf.

It's because without the superfluous advertising there probably wouldn't be a Golf Channel.

Or it would be a premium channel that you pay an additional amount for, much like HBO or Showtime. I have seen it lumped in a "sports package" at times, but you are not paying for just the golf channel, you get many other sports channels. but, where I live, it comes with basic cable, so I'm not paying specifically for the golf channel, more for the complete line-up over and above standard free 4 channel TV.

Without the DVR and the ability to time shift I could not bear to watch a golf broadcast live. I usually just record the program and start watching it about an hour or two after it starts.....no problem edit out everything you don't like and rewind and slo mo the stuff you want to focus on. Simple.

Then don't make comments like you were born yesterday. Judd Heathcote should have his handball team smack some sense into you.

By the way, they did cut back on staff.

I didn't say I was fine with it, but I understand the "why" and more importantly, don't frustrate myself over something I can't control. If you can't take it, don't watch it (by the way, there are more Cialis, etc. ads running on network TV during golf and football than on the Golf Channel).

I was talking with a buddy the other day about TV commercials and the end result is that there are very few if any commercial products or services that are promoted/offered on TV that I have ANY interest in or even think about using. I mean it is a huge black hole of crap. Pause the TV on FIOS....get up get a drink, have a conversation, toss the ball with the dog, anything to build up some "fast-forward" time and then back to the show and speed thru the future commercials. Its great.

Now Super Bowl commercials....that different. Some of those are pure entertainment.

How 'bout how many times they play those stupid commercials about how you "can't ride this bicycle out of the box"....or" here is a plastic pony and you get a real pony"........

I knew this thread was about commercials, Thursday I tried to watch it and was pissed so I Dvr'd Friday and it was much better. If I see that stupid Want a pony commercial or the bicycle in the box I am gonna puke. DVR is the only way to watch golf except when I forget to tape the show right after the event and miss the final hole because the DVR stopped recording and the event went long. I missed the 18th hole Sunday and was pissed.

I never realized how much i can't stand Kelly Tilghman. Once CBS took over i could finally watch without rolling my eyes every other minute.

Its a compounding problem too. Once someone starts to grate on you, it gets worse and worse. Even straightforward comments begin to annoy you, and eventually you just can't stand the sound of their voice.

i think the part that is frustrating is that earlier in the day when they show the euro's.......they will show non-stop action. i'm talking 10-15 shots back to back. TGC is more about fracking Kelly T. and Faldo and their stupid stories. And I am so sick of seeing the shoreline and the cliff jumpers. If i wanted to watch nature...i'd turn on Discovery or National Geographic.

Its the fracking GOLF CHANNEL.....SHOW GOLF!!

whoa. i rant too.

The thing with the European Tour coverage is, that they take camera feed from the UK's SkySports who are the official tv provider, the golf channel just change the logo in the top corner of the tv! But the main reason is they only go for commercials every 15mins, where as in the states commercial are every 3-5 mins, thats why you only get 3-5 shots!

i would say that your are correct and one thing i have noticed is that, who ever runs the European golf tour is way better produced i wish the pga did the same with theres and the golf channel is all over the place with there infomercials and there old tiger clinics maybe put on some classic matches and maybe the last weeks event. there has got to be more to put on the golf channel thats for sure. some amateur events
