Hibore-Face Angle?

It's slightly closed. I think it's 0.5 degrees or 1 degree, but it is definately closed.

I think it varies as most retail stuff does. I compared about ten heads before picking my 9.5* head that was square. I did the same picking out a 10.5* for my dad and a lefty 9.5* for a friend. And yes....they saw how I was hitting mine and got one too. :)

I was thinking about buying one but I don't have any access to any demos or launch monitor. I normally fight a low hook. My normal flight with my launcher comp 10.5 with a prolaunch stiff is moderately low but not horrible so i was looking towards the hibore to gain some height. But I don't want something with a closed face. Any suggestions

Have a look at this image (below) from this review. I measured this one to be about 2.9 degrees closed.

 

 

Also keep in mind something else: the shaft droops through impact, effectively pointing the clubface back to the right just a little. But the only way I could hit the HiBore seen in the image above was to literally lay the face open at address, grip, and swing from there. Otherwise I was 30-40 yards left every time.

My 9.5 is definitely closed a degree or two.

IMO, The face angle are more personal thing that we all though should be, it's depending on how we hold the club at address position. Some of us hold the butt end by the zipper and some by the left pocket ( for RH ), some have a low hand and some have a higher hand position, this will make another factor also.

 

Base on the Machine/gauge, they measured w/ the groves flat 0* to the plate of the gauge ( ex: 59* for most TM drivers )...however almost no one hold the club at address at 59* angle.

 

Now, due the sole plate design, every club are different. So it's not easy to say the head is close or open from one player to another. Most of us holding the club at address end up w/ toe stick up higher, if this is the case the low point on the sole is closer to the heel area, so if the heel area design is curve higher on the rear heel area, this design will make the club face fall more open ( ex 510 TP, cleve comp ). Versus (ex: Callaway FT3 or X tour) who happened has a fat/thick back sole part design will not change the face angle that much if we hold it at 59* or 45* at address position.

 

My best example, I have R7 460cc that i measured 0* face angle at 59*...however the screw placement design ( i call it "muffler" ;) ) at address position will end up probably 3* close on a hard wood floor.

 

Some head, especially on a Fairway Wood have room to grind that area to make the face angle a little more open ( Sonartec, Callaway by shimming, etc ). On the R7 460 case, i've grind the screw/muffler to make the face sit more open.

 

The other factor is how they paint the club. Basically how is the paint break on the toe transition to the face. If the paint goes to far to the face area by the toe, they will create a close face illusion ( ex: tour edge exotic driver ). Plus some manufacturing tolerance of course.

 

These are just some of my observation that might be useful.

I have a Hi-bore 9.5º that I'm demoing right now. Definitely closed. My Comp even at 10.5º is square.

I have the Prolaunch in my Comp as well. Are you really hitting it low? It's the highest launching combo I have ever played.

Every club in my bag has a generally lower launch than most. Which doesn't bother me except for woods. I don't hit the comp that low in comparison with drivers in the past. It does hit it higher than others but I would like something that has a little more launch. So that is why I have been considering the Hibore. I just don't need anything with a closed face since my misses are hooks
