Anyone have a history with Apex Edge Irons

Recommended Posts

I have a set of MX 25 `s and went down to pro shop to have the Lofts checked as I was losing distance . Whilst waiting I took out a BH Apex Edge set he had on sale and was blown away at how great they were to hit. On checking the Lofts I found that they were about the same as the MX 25`s yet each club was 10 -15 yards longer and almost as soft off the face as the MX`s. Both have reg shafts MX(dg Lite) Apex (apex edge reg).

Very tempted to buy them.Pro says that Calloway has discontinued BH and these are the last. Anyone got any history or experience

I'm about to start my 3rd season with them. Got them to replace a long time held and well used set of Titleist DCIs. I don't know that they're any longer than the DCIs, but I feel I hit the ball straighter and get a better ball flight out of them. I tend to hit my irons very high, and the Apex have a bit lower trajectory. Using just the 5 -PW, replaced the 3 and 4 with hybrids

In 1989, I bought a 1 iron to get a little more foregiving club than the Apex PC that I was using. I could hit it a ton, later found out that the loft on it was 15 degrees or 15.5 degrees. The persimmon 3 wood that I played back then didnt have that much loft on it. They had really strong lofts on them, were stupid easy to hit though.

I've been playing them recently, 5-E, an Apex Edge set from 2001. Much clunkier than I'm used to but I was having trouble with hits toward the toe a few months ago and my Apex Grinds and Haig Ultras were plummeting well short with that tendency. The first few rounds I had many mishits that I started to curse, then I realized it was heading to the right side of the green and not the front bunker or shorter. Now my contact is better but I've continued to bag the Apex Edges.

The distance is definitely very good, with a slightly lower ball flight than I'm accustomed to. I can't draw them dependably so I favor straight to a slight cut. The thick top line bugs me but I'm slowly learning to ignore it.

I have the 2006 Apex Edge irons and I absolutely love them. I don't see myself replacing them for a very long time. They seem very durable for a forged iron. Great feel and very forgiving without looking too terrible. A little chunky, but when you see where the ball goes you'll be willing to overlook it.

I sure hope, for your sake, that you bought the Hogans - there are no better clubs.

(From the above, you can understand that I'm a Hogan man through and through - still play a 1998 set of Hogan Apex blades - and I love it!)
