Major expectations start younger than ever

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md. (AP) -- Karrie Webb had already achieved more than she imagined, winning $1 million as a rookie and nine tournament after three full years on the LPGA Tour. But it wasn't long before she was told it wasn't enough.

"I was what? 24? And I was getting the `When are you going to win a major?' question," Webb said. "I don't think it's fair or unfair. That's just the way those things go. I won ... I don't know how many tournaments after my first three years, but because none of them had been a major, that seemed to be the next questions."

Some of the kids these days might be asking why it took so long to pop Webb the question.

The LPGA Championship gets under way Thursday, and among the players expected to contend are some teenagers barely out of high school. One is Morgan Pressel, who only graduated two weeks ago.

Another is Paula Creamer, 19, who won her first LPGA Tour event last year, then flew home to graduate high school.
