Are his Nike VR Pro irons standard loft and same as commercial version or does he use the old lofts which are the same as his original clubs when he signed with Nike? I notice no gap wedge which surprises me unless his current PW has a loft closer to a gap. He used to used a 49 PW I think and I think the current PW on the VR's is 47.

I heard he has the clubs made with weak lofts that were similar to his old mizuno iron lofts. I thought he went up in loft on the driver to 10? did he go back down to 8.5 since working with Foley?

Yeah, throughout his career, whether he used Mizuno, Titleist or Nike, the lofts were always weak.
As for the driver, I know he went up to 10° in 2009/10 but I don't know about the return to 8.5°

i think he uses this shaft when he knows his knee isnt 100%, perhaps some properties of the shafts work better when his knee isnt working fully and this saft suits that swing better than his normal swing with a better knee with the whiteboard, just my 2 cents, seems logical tho
I can understand why you could think that but he hasn't changed how hard he goes at the ball or anything. The golf swing puts a terrible strain on anyone's knees and although some are not a hard on them, tiger mainly gets his power from his legs which creates all the knee problems. If anything the shaft could be helpful for an arm or upper body injury of some sort. Because you do not hold up a club with you knees you do it with you arms. The DI could go two ways, one it's lighter and a softer flex which helps turn the ball over and hit it farther, two and most probable as tiger big miss is left the shaft is stiffer and helps him hit cuts rather than draws.

Here's what I don't get: Tiger shows up at the TPC on Monday and tells the press that he hasn't taken full swings since the final round of the Masters. Yet he shows up with a new driver shaft. You don't just hit a drive on the 17th at Augusta (as I recall, he hit 3 wood on 18) with the Whiteboard, sit for several weeks injured without taking a full swing, and then decide "hey, I'm going to switch shafts".

It wouldn't surprise me if he wasn't being honest with the press, and had actually practiced prior to Monday--otherwise the equipment change seems very out of place...

I agree - I can't see Tiger turning up to a tournament without having swung a club for nearly a month. It's just not him. Doesn't matter too much now anyway looks like he might be in some trouble, hopefully he'll be back winning soon.

Couldn't agree more, he is one of the last people you will see changing things in his bag. Especially that quickly without frequently practicing. I guess he had previously used it during the masters last year but that was a year ago and even that doesn't make the switch easy.

Maaaaybe he really had not swung a club... and he never planned on finishing the TPC tournament. He made a show of support and then left after nine holes.
Orrrrr he has been practicing lightly, but still never wanted to play the TPC tournament, but yet still show some support.. his plan was always to fake a worse knee problem and get home for more practice and recovery.

Just throwing out crazy ideas.

just to remember that when Tiger came back in the 2010 Masters he had no knee problem. he was out becaus of the "sex scandal"
doesnt mean that he wasnt feeling good about his knee, he might not have trusted it completely at that point because of such lack of practice and play time

I have read a few posts that showed he plays 1/4" OVER standard and also hear he plays1/2" UNDER standard. Well, what is standard in this case? It sure looks like he plays shorter clubs and hes not overly tall. So is it a truth that his 5 iron is 37.5" orrrrrr.....???

Thanks guys.

i heard he plays 1/4" under standard

from GD:

Woods' club specs have been a closely guarded secret for a number of years, but the auction listing goes into great detail. The shafts are True Temper Dynamic Gold X-100, tipped one-quarter of an inch with lengths graduated downward in one-half inch increments from the 39-inch 2-iron. The lie angle is one degree upright and the lofts are 2 degrees weak throughout the set (the 2-iron, for example, has a lie angle of 60 degrees and a loft of 21 degrees). The swingweight is a meaty D4.
