HELP!
was sup fellow golfers. i have a problem that i'm trying to get rid of. currently, you can see my iron set in my sig but for those of you who don't want to look down there, i play the tm rac os2. those were new this season and i've only used them about a dozen time. well, during the winter, i also purchased another set of irons, mizzy mx23s. when i went in and got fitted for those, i was hitting them pretty well. great feel and feedback. all hits felt great and solid. so as you can see, i have two sets of irons. i'm starting to get comfortable with the rac os2, and overall, i think they are a great set of sticks. i would not be thinking about this if i didn't have a second set, but too late for that now.

so my question to all is, would you just forget about the rac os2 and trade them in for something else and play the mizzy? problem is, is that i haven't hit the mizzys outdoors yet or even made a trip to the range/course yet. i know for sure they will perform every bit and live up to the hype it once had, but there's still that risk of if i sell the rac os2s and the 23s don't work out like the os2s, them i'm screwed.

does the mizzy's hit pretty similar (ball flight) to the os2s...?

all help and suggestions would be greatfull. thanks

holla!

Seems like a lot of fellows on this board have back-up iron sets and it might be good to have 2 sets you like to shake things up if your iron play goes haywire, or to use your 2nd favorite set for travel. I personally don't like having a back-up iron set option because in the past when I've been in that situation I question which set to use instead of committing totally to what I'm playing. I played and liked the original Rac OS irons for a few months in early 2005 and they might have been slightly more forgiving than the MX-23's, but I wasn't crazy about the stock shafts (I don't know whether the original OS and OS2 use the same stock steel). As near as I can remember my Rac OS/stock stiff steel combo was maybe a bit longer than my current MX-23/Nippon set but the stock Rac OS steel shafts seemed to produce higher dispersion for me - sometimes I'd hit a super long shot out of nowhere (my usual 7 iron is around 150-155 carry and I hit a few with the Rac's that carried in the 170+ range, not downwind or downhill either, this happened a few times with all the Rac short irons - 7 - PW), I also usually play a mid flight draw and with the Rac's I'd occasionally hit a really high fade. Some of those shots were likely attributable to my sometimes erratic swing but I have yet to experience anything like that with my MX-23's (played these for about 3 months and it seems like I get exactly what my swing desrves on each shot, which is nice). Maybe the Rac stock steel shaft was too soft for me, I certainly liked the feel and forgiveness of that clubhead. For me the big MX-23 advantage over the Rac OS is the softer feel, a more nimble sole, less offset in the short irons, and more consitant yardages. I also find the MX-23 plenty forgiving and I believe it performs better than the Rac OS on my typical thin mishits, I know the Rac OS weight cartridges also have plenty of weight down low but I've hit many thin shots with both and the MX-23's work better for me on those mishits.

thanks guys for your response. i would love to have two sets but i'm afraid that i might not give the other set enough playing time and while it's sitting in the closet collecting dust, i could've made a sale on them months ago for a decent amount of money or a decent putter.

i wonder how my swing and playing ability will change from set to set...? know what i mean..?

holla!

Personally, I prefer the mizunos and they will stay with you all the way to single digits. They will give you a better indication of a well struck shot as opposed to a poorly hit shot than your OS2's would. IMO, this is critical to one's continued improvement in this sport.

Secondly, you have the best of both situations. The mx-23 is better down the road but does not have the resale value of the OS2's.

Sell the OS2's and keep the better, but underrated/undervalued, MX23

if you hit te OS2 irons well then why change? if you want to commit to just one set of irons then why change to a set you aren't positive you will play great with and haven't yet used. obviously you should go with what you are comfortable with, but, to me it seems silly to get rid of a set of irons that you play well with. just don't get sucked into the world of hype because loads of people tell you what is good and what isn't. just think, when was the last time somebody slated their own equipment in a review other than brand loyal people or a proper club ho???

play the mizuno's for a while if you wish but hang on to the OS2's and then decide which you play best with!

You need to stick with what works the best! I would take the Mizzy's out for a couple rounds and make sure they are working for you. If they both work and you like the feel of one over the other get ride of the one with a feel you like less. On course comparison is the only way!
