Are all Japanese shafts weak to flex?

Just picked up some 2008 forged tp irons. They came with taylor made labelled x100. I have heard that a lot of Japnaese market graphite shafts play weak to flex, am wondering if this is the case with iron shafts also?

If it's TT X100, it's true TT X100.

Your irons will not play soft to flex - the X100 does not recognize borders!

As for Japanese shafts (graphite, drivers in particular) playing soft, game improvement models there will have softer shafts. However, Tourstage, Srixon and other companies have put some stout shafts in their 'athletic' or low-handicap models.

Should have clarified this, that they are soft stepped and maybe play between an x and an s. Any chance this is the case?

True Temper play the same anywhere, but they may be soft stepped. The Nippon line to me plays soft to flex, especially the 1050s. Most folks post the 1150s are true to flex. Now the stock shafts of game improvement lines is another matter. I have bought PRGR in thier S3 stiffest they offer and it is weak and limpy, even for me and I no big swing speed guy, by any stretch.

All of the PRGR clubs I have tried/played had an M + number flex so something like m-46 for stiff. The 'stiff' PRGR steel shafts had a lower bend point than the S300/X100, giving them a softer feel in comparison to the True Temper shafts, but the M46 was still pretty firm. For drivers, in addition to the M-46, I am 'pretty sure' that PRGR offered an M-49 in some of their players clubs - this would not play like an X-Flex Fuji Speeder, however, it was still a pretty stiff shaft.

Bobcat, have PRGR changed their numbering to S1, S2, S3 etc? I haven't looked at their clubs for some time now.

No

Also, soft stepping if done correctly, drops the flex approx. 1/3 closer to the weaker flex. You would have to SS a shaft 3 times to play the same as a weaker flex. X to S

iDrive, it has been a long time, how are you?

I am glad to hear that PRGR have stuck to their fitting system as I was really impressed with their 'total package' when I went through their process in Japan.

Ping shafts in japan are lighter but maintain flex. The feel and performance are noticably better.

Have G15 in TFC615(TourAD) and TFC149(noname) and it's night and day...
