Which country clubs should I consider in Phoenix?

Recommended Posts

Moving to the Phoenix/Tempe area shortly and I'm looking to join a club. I'll probably end up settling down in the east camelback area and was thinking of joining Arizona Country Club or Phoenix Country Club. Not really looking to join a club like Whisper Rock (even though it's amazing) as I'd like it to have a pool, gym, tennis court, etc. A younger crowd would also be great.

If anyone has any insight on some of the clubs in the area and any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There have been a few that have gone belly up and accepted public play. Superstition Mountain is public play, but is still accepting members. They have 36 holes and until recently held an LPGA event. I hear nothing but great things about it. Even though it might be a little far south for you, check out Seville country club. It's at Higley and Chandler heights in south Gilbert. It has a gym and 3 pools with a water slide. Encanterra is another private club in Queen Creek, farther out and newer(the range balls are ProV1's) than Seville--couldn't hurt to look.

I'm sure there are some others in the Scottsdale area to check out as well. Whisper Rock is invite only, unfortunately.

My grandfather in Law is a longevity member at Arizona Country CLub. The New clubhouse is amazing. The gym is amazing, the staff is outstanding. The course is really great, but certainly not a desert layout. Much more parkland feeling, with grass tee to green and between holes over the whole property. The membership has certainly gotten younger over the last 10 years there. All in all if you can afford it (I have no idea what their initiation is now with the economy), I would take a serious look at it.

Oh and the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies at the snack shack at the turn are off the chain.

The only negative to the place is the drivng range is weak. The practice green and chipping/pitching greens are of good quailty. But the range itself is short.

Great, thanks for the suggestions...most of the places you mentioned look great but are a bit further from where I'll be living. Thanks

Great, this is very helpful. I visited the club recently but didn't play it as the greens were pretty beat up from the overseeding. I agree, the clubhouse is amazing! Have you played Phoenix CC by chance? If so, how does it compare? Are the greens at AZ CC fast and true? The guy in membership claims that they run 12.5 most of the year and are as pure as Augusta, and that at the member guest they can get them up to 13.5.
