Advise on Shaft

I am currently playing a Launcher 400 with HTD CB-65 Stiff flex. For me and my SS, 100-105, this shaft works nice for my smooth swing. I have a mid to high piercing trajectory. I am thinking about getting the 460 comp and putting the same shaft in it. Im not sure if this is a good combo or not, but based on my results with the Launcher 400 these past two years, I would think so. I hit the Comp with the stock shaft and I am definitely longer with my current setup. I am basically looking for an upgrade with possible distance gain.
Anyone have any thoughts on this combo? My other choice would be a PingG5 with Aldila NV S or maybe R but I think my trajectory maybe too low (I am going to demo this club this weekend)

Have you demo'd the Launcher Comp yet? I used to own one and actaully miss it quite a bit right now. There isn't much to choose from at the Cleveland Demos as far as LC's. I find that the G5 and LC are both great clubs and you should have a positive experience with either. Just ask the demo guy to get you on the right shaft, confirm it on a monitor and you are all set.

 

If you hit it high, the NV might work pretty nice for you. I had that in my 9.5 LC and the results were good (for me). I was actually a lot more confident hitting that than my new Hibore. The LC sets up so nicely and the sound, at least to me, is perfect.

Ive only hit the LC with the stock shaft, and it felt weak, nothing compared to my HTD. I am going to hit both the LC and the G5 with the NV shaft. I love the looks of the LC, but Ive seen the G5 / NV combo in action and I was amazed at the distance. But, I still dont know how the NV will suit me. If I dont like it, I think I can just put another HTD in the Comp (or G5) and go with that. The main problem I have is that no one has any demos with the HTD, so I would have to get it with the hopes it will work like my current setup.

Yes, you aren't going to see any Cleveland demos where they have more than 2 or 3 shafts available in the comp. The G5 comes in 45.75" standard length, so keep that in mind on the distancy/accuracy tradeoff. I don't have any experience with the HTD shaft, but I can tell you that we all agonize over this very issue, I'm still agonizing over it myself, but if you get a quality fitter to work with, you will come out with something that suits your game from just about any major manufacturer. From there, it's personal preference, which is why I was pretty high on the looks and sound (feel) of the comp.

I purchased a 9.5 comp last year and have had great results with it. I was looking for a higher trajectory and opted for a Fuji platform 26.3/x at 46 and hit bombs with it. I have a ss of 110 and the trajectory is higher, but very flat. I have owned or tried all of the new drivers out there the last couple of years looking for that extra 10 yards, but have hit nothing better. Demo as many different shafts as possible and get fit on a launch monitor. Good luck.

Have you thought about the HiBORE? I haven't tried it personally yet, but I know a lot of people who have it and absolutely love it. But it's definitely a driver that needs to be fitted carefully because of the weird numbers (much higher launch/much lower spin).

If your looking at the comp your looking at alot of carry. so shafts like the Prolaunch blue wouldn't work well unless you hit the ball low. a low ti mid launch shaft like the NV i think would kill in that head. but yeah my dad has a comp with a stock shaft plus a 1 inch extension. i'll smash the ball but with the spin and carry i get no roll....so i would advise a low launch shaft to adjust for the high launch.

Big Comp fan here and I believe you're on the right track looking at low to mid launch shafts for the Comp, definitely a higher launch/spin head. I played a 10.5 degree last year and had 4 different high trajectory shafts in it (stock stiff, Prolaunch 65 stiff, NVS65 stiff and TP 26.3 stiff), all played a bit too high with more spin/less roll than I like to see with my 100-105 MPH smooth swing. Of the 4 I tried the PL65 gave me the best results = a bit lower trajectory with better dispersion (harder to hook) and more roll. I haven't tried an NV in the Comp but I've read many reviews praising that combo. I got a 9.5 over the winter and I've just had an MCC MFS65 stiff installed, it should be more of a mid launch, lower spin combo than the other 4 I mentioned but I won't get a chance to hit it for a few days. I think the best shaft will depend on what loft you go with, judging from my results with the 10.5 head I believe that the PL65 would be very good in an 8.5 or 9.5 head and if I don't get along with the MFS65 I'll probably try a PL65 in my 9.5 Comp. If I were to play a 10.5 again the shafts that I'd want to try in it would be the Grafalloy Blue, Comp NT, UST V2, Accuflex Evolution or NV. I've never hit an HTD shaft but awhile back I posted a thread asking for Comp shaft recommendations and one fellow forum member had and loved his HTD 7520/Launcher combo.
