putter trends

hi all:there have been many trends in putters come and go both on and off the tour such as anser style putters,mallet style putters with center shafts,belly putters,left hand low grip,claw grip and so on.one new trend i find in putters for 2006 is big mallet putters with plumbers neck hosles is this the big trend this year for putters?what it all comes down to is what ever works to get the ball in the hole.p.s. just ask karrie webb who's playing great in '06 with pings new odd looking ug-le putter. :yahoo: :yahoo:

Bugger me... sorry guys, for some reason I thought b-man was talking about her irons aswell for some reason. Geez, I can't believe I made that simple mistake.

Anyway, b-man is right. Along with all the traditional putter, it seems that the putter market has seemed to move alot more into the high MOI and easy to align designs.

But I must say, Scotty seems to be going the other way to what everyone else is doing.

Scotty seems just as interested as anyone else. Recent designs such as Futura's, Phantom's, Red X and the soon to be released C5 prove he is just as keen to experiment with MOI as anyone else.

Hey Simon@RMGC, just OT, do you by any chance play at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Victoria, Australia?

Back on topic, I feel that Scotty, although he does follow the putter trends to some extent, stick more to the bread and butter, tried and true designs. He doesn't seem to aggresively venture into those areas and seems to prefer to stick and dominate at what he does best; that it make classic putters.

I'm not quite sure however, that the C-5 would count as a MOI putter as the design suggests otherwise. Instead, the aim of the C-5 is to improve the putting stroke, I think.

One other trend which I said before is the type of putter design which aims to make it easy to align. I think Scotty goes this way with more of his contemporary designs rather than going the MOI path. In any case, I see Scotty as more of a master craftsman/artist in his profession in stark contrast to the highly skilled engineering/mechanical R & D technicians of other major OEMS.
