I didn't want to open this thread up again, but I thought I would shed some light on this comment about the shaft being "garbage".

When the TT rep explained the renewal of interest in this shaft it made a lot of sense to me.

 

When this shaft was first introduced (2001) there were no launch monitors for fitting. Everyone was still playing 7 and 8 degree drivers because they thought if you hit it lower it would roll more and go farther.

Since this shaft is a very low spinning shaft, average golfers and their low lofted drivers weren't able to get it off the ground. The shaft probably played a little to stiff for most as well.

 

Now that most golfers realize they need to increase their launch angle to get more distance and the way to do that is go up in loft, a low spinning shaft comes in handy to compensate the increase in spin rate from higher lofted, bigger CC heads.

 

While the original Bimatrx might not have been a success in the long run, the 500,000 that were sold in its first year could hardly be considered a failure.

 

And the title of this thread is Grafalloy Axis, not Grafalloy Bimatrx.

I love my prototype! It replaced my stock nike diamana and I've gained 20+ yards easily. It's my first X flex and I wish I had been hitting an X a long time ago because I finally feel like i've found the perfect shaft for my game. I had a Pro Launch Blue in my Ignite and I think the prototype is a much better shaft. Just my opinion.

...And just because a product "seems" good in theory, doesn't mean it's good in practice.

I've hit the Bi-Matirx proto. I was sorely disappointed. Definitely not up to the quality of Grafalloy's other offerings.

 

As to the Axis, in "theory" it sounds good.... I guess you never know until you actually hit a shaft if it's decent or not.... wink wink... :drinks:

Yeah I know I sound like an infomercial but I was a shaft wh*re until now. I've got a very fast ss which created a lot of backspin. Even with a stiff flex my shaft just didn't feal right and I was always afraid to get an x flex. My ballflight started really low, then rose high up in the air only to fall flat with no roll. What I get now is a mid-high penatrating ballflight that gets me an extra 10+ yard carry with an addtional 10+ yards of roll. There's your 20+.
