Dallas Trip

I went to Dallas to visit my son. I played golf 5 days in a row from August 7 to 11. It is pretty darn hot in Dallas. I need to get a few more Dri-Fit golf shirts and shorts. Played when it was 95 to 105. On a positive note, the ball seemed to go pretty far because the fairways were pretty dry. All the courses we played had good practice areas. The Cowboys was the only course with GPS on the cart.

First course I played was The Cowboys Golf Club. Teed off at 2pm to get the $100 rate. Good course but not worth the $190 rate for earlier tee times. The course was in good shape and green. They give you free food and drink on the course. The jalapeno bratwurst was pretty good. The first four holes were the best. Then the course flattens out. The adjacent Grapevine Muni looked just as nice.

Played Tangle Ridge on day two. Greens fee was $45 with a coupon from golfq.com. Pretty decent course for the money. The fairways were pretty brown in spots. Greens were in good shape. Three of the par threes were too short, in the 130 yard range.

Played Texas Star on day three. Greens fee was $50 with a coupon from their website. Saved $7,00. This was the best course I played. Just a lot of nice holes. The course was in great shape.

Played Castle Hill on the fouth day. Greens fee was $40 on a Tuesday. The fee regularly is $60 and $80 on the weekend. Good value for $40, Not worth the regular rates, Good front nine. The back nine was pretty blah. The greens were in rough shape. Lots of nice homes on the periphery of the course.

Played The Tribute on the last day. Only charged $55 through their website. This was a great deal for the money. Not sure I'd want to pay $129 for the weekend rate. Lots of nice holes. I didn't think I was in Great Britain. But on the 18th hole as I crossed the pseudo-Swilken Bridge, I did not to wave to the crowd ala Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson. That round could have been my last time to The Tribute.

So Dallas has some good courses. Good deals can be had by playing M-Th and looking for coupons.

Great place to take Guy Trips ... Stay in the Clubhouse / play golf / hang out / repeat ... Even better option now that Old American is 400 yds from the Clubhouse

If you liked the Tribute you should try Tour 18 next time your in Dallas

I have to admit that I love The Tribute. Something about the course really speaks to me. I seldom miss it when we are in the area. We are even looking at a retirement community that is not too far from there expressly because it is close to The Tribute. Be sure and play the course when the wind is howling over the lake. I makes the course play like a real links course should, IMHO. Not Bandon but not bad either.

I live in DFW ... and I've played Tour 18 a bunch ... and I've never played The Tribute .... hmmm ...
