Callaway Squareway

Just picked up a 3 wood squareway for $50 used at Edwin Watts. I have still been using the Adams xtd fw/hybrid combo 3 wood. Off the tee, no comparison, the squareway is much, much longer....however off the deck I am having trouble comparing it to the Adams.

 

Anyone else having trouble with the squareway off the deck??

I couldn't agree more with you! Off the tee is awesome, fairway...not so much. Out of the rough is actually better than the fairway for me for some reason. I bought mine when Callaway had that $1 fairway wood deal last year, thinking if I didn't like it, I could get something else. I love it though for the most part!

The squareways are very long clubs, but have relatively high face heights. I found the 3 wood to be not the easiet to hit off of the deck. If the ball was sitting up in light rough, the shot came off much better. The 5 wood is somewhat better , probably due to loft, but still not the easiest to hit. The 7 wood is by far the best of the bunch. I use The FT-IZ woods in a 7 and 9 wood. I think that they are impossible to beat at those high lofts. I wouldn't use a FT-IZ 3 or 5 wood; there are much better options.

Just bought one recently off the preowned site. I noticed the closed clubface did that affect you tee shots (hooks)? Thanks.

I play a fade off the tee anyway, on purpose, so no it was pretty straight for me

Pretty much the same results as previous posts. Had the foresight to swap it for a few dozen balls and went to a different 3 wood. The new balls lasted longer too since I hit fewer out of play left.

Its like a 200cc fw, really not meant to be that functional off the deck.

I had a similar problem with the G15 woods-- very long off the tee but shorter than comparable woods off the deck. Possibly the Squareway's, like the G15's, sole is too large for clean contact off the turf. My Squareway lasted one round b/c I mostly hit the woods from the ground. I also had the same problem with the Hibore XLS. Fairway woods are the toughest to settle on.

I use my Squareway 5 wood off the deck almost exclusively. Maybe off the tee on a rare long par 3, but that's it. I find it very easy to hit off the fairway and when sitting up in the rough. I have a tough time with it on downhill lies, but I'm sure that is more of a swing problem.
