Does golfing early produce better scores?

I usually golf in the afternoons about 2 to avoid the crowds and because I usually go by myself and play up with people.

I start out great 2 over through the front 9, then back nine just blows up.

I normally shoot low 80's, but I am thinking maybe if I go out early my scores will improve.

I am normally beat (tired) towards the back 9 and I am sure ithis affects my scores.

What do you all think? When do you play to score your best?

I've been giving this some thought lately as well.

 

when I play in the afternoons, I start out great, and then the back nine I'll either tank or do so-so on, because I just get tired out and can't wait to get home to get some grub. On the other hand, when i start at around 9:00, the front nine is terrible, and so is the back because the front was terrible and I just don't care about a score anymore. But, my 2 best rounds, a 73 and a 75, came when i went off at a little after 10:00, when I had been up for 2 hours prior to my first tee appointment. Interestingly, both of those rounds came without range time or time on the putting green. Anyway...

 

I think you need a mid-morning time to do your best. At that time, you are niether too tired, or too awake and ready to burn out.

I like to go out a little later, say 1 to 2. This way the crowds are avoided and the round is 3:30 to 4:00 long as opposed to 4:45 to 6:00 long. Waiting around too much throws me off my game, I get frustrated and impatient and this messes with my head and score.

early morning tee time...forget bout it...late afternoon tee time...get too hungry back nine and lose energy..plus whatever snacks i have are not enough! I play my best during a late morning/early afternoon tee time

THanks ... I am going to try late morning and see if this helps me... but I guess this brings up another question... Do the tee times affect PRO's as well?

I prefer the early times, leaves the rest of the day for family or chores around the house but I've found weather plays a significant role in how the course plays in the afternoon generally the greens are more receptive and don't role as fast in the morning versus when they dry out in the afternoon and you rarely have the wind to contend with in the early morning rounds, so I'm sure that factors in for the pro's as well. :cheesy:

i like to play whenever i can but usually when i have an early AM time, my front 9 stinks (prbly cause i rarely warm up aside from the putting green) and by the back im a bit looser and dialed in. but AMs are always packed on the course and the "traffic" doesn't sit well with me.

 

i usually play 36 each day on the wknds (no wife, no kids, can't understand my dog's complaints) and the afternoon rounds (3-5pm start) are usually better than the morning round. courses around me are pretty light in the late afternoon and i never feel rushed and feel like i have the whole course to myself. let's me relax and concentrate more so i usually play better.

 

i hardly ever tee off after 9AM or before 3PM but am thinking i'm going to try to get out 10AM or so more often. midday is hot but i'm curious to see how i play with a round during that time.

For me it's playing really late. Trying to play really quickly makes you forget about positions and think about just playing golf.

Being a stay at home dad (yes, I do contract work) I usually get out after 5 pm. It's great. I get to play by myself and sometimes there will be another single on the range warming up. Nice to get to play with someone for a change. I do notice that if I play by myself I tend to work on my game more than worry about my score. If I hit a bad shot into a green I'll grab another ball and hit it from that same spot. Of course I'll play my first ball but I like to know what I did wrong. I'll also do that with my tee shots. I'll try to draw one, fade one and hit one straight if I can, Just to check position mostly.

 

They won't ever let me walk though. However, it is one of those courses where if you walked, you'd be toast by the 4th hole.

If you play earlier the greens will be less bumpy in the Northeast due to the type of grass on most greens.

 

But since most courses I play on are all Muni's I guess it doesn't really matter because moron's don't fix there ball marks.

I am the firat off usually at my club i belong to, about 6am. it depends on the time of year and if the pro shop guy is in if i go out super early or real early. I am usually done with 18 hole in 2.5 hours, yesterday i played 18 holes and drove home in 2 hours 10 mins. i didnt play well but that wasnt cause of the pace it was cause i was off and terrible.
