I wasn't sure where to post this...

 

I have a tournament at Indiana University next Saturday and Sunday (practice round Friday). Anybody play there before and have any info?

What do you want to know? It's pretty short with lots of trees. There are a number of blind shots and greens that are built up and and slope significantly in one direction. On these holes, it's absolutely critical to put the ball below the hole. And, it's in absolutely terrible shape. All courses around here are hurting this year, but the IU course is in spectacularly bad shape.

The fairways are in poor shape, everything got sunburned. I thought they kept the greens and surrounding rough in pretty good shape, I havent played over there in a while so Im not sure if it has gotten any worse.

Haven't played there since I was an MBA student at IU several years ago. Not much need for a driver there. Usually the fairways are so firm that your better off with a 3 wood or something to keep it in play. The par 3's are pretty good, and it has a fun driveable par 4 (15 I think). The rest of the course is pretty forgettable.

While you're in Bloomington, do yourself a favor and go eat at Little Zagreb and/or Snow Lion. Zagreb's has fantastic steaks and Snow Lion has great Tibetan fare. (Man, I miss Bloomington.)

I will try both those places. Playing a course that requires 3 woods off the tee could be a godsend considering how I've been driving the ball...short and crooked.

Mother Bear's is good if you're in the mood for pizza

For a while now it's been very fast and dry through the fairways. It was actually flooded early summer and then dried out, which is why it's so bad. There are a number of fairways that don't have any grass for long stretches. The greens have been watered quite a bit (there are a few that would be unplayable if the were as fast as the course), so they're not so bad.

Last time I played there a couple weeks ago, it was pretty strange, everything ran like crazy off the green. But hit the green and the ball stopped dead with a huge pitch mark. All this made it very easy to score. But, if you take it pin high and miss right or left, look out...

What's the tourney? It's coming up this weekend?

Sorry for the late response.

It's a PJGT tournament for an AJGA exemption and it is this weekend. I got my practice round in today. The course wasn't as bad as anticipated...greens were fairly smooth and not too fast, but not slow. Some fairways were really bad (9 and 10 were 2 of the worst). The rough was burnt out and everything was firm...it felt like the fairway was 10 yds wide. I'll let everyone know how I play.

BTW, Mother Bear's was great!

For those who actually care...I ground out a 78 today after starting double double. They are playing 1 as a par 4, so it was tough. I couldn't make any putts either. Hopefully I'll play better tomorrow.

Well done, not an easy course to grind it out... Definitely not one of my favorites.

I played basically just as bad yesterday and couldn't buy a putt. I stuck a wedge on 3 to 3 feet..3 putt. 37 putts isn't gonna get it done. Shot 81. Middle of the pack. Really enjoyed Bloomington...especially Janko's, haha.
