Tiger Woods model Nike Irons

I had an opportunity to pick up a set of Tiger Woods Nike Blade irons I think that came out in 2004. They had sat on this dealer's wall for about that long starting at a very high price and finally being listed at $899. I said out of sarcasm I'll give you $499 for them. SOLD he said. I knew nothing about them and assumed they were like the Titleist Ts which were his head but with S400 shafts in them and a normal lie. Boy was I wrong they are indeed his spec X-100s, upright (feels like 2 degrees), and just a touch shorter than normal lengths (1/4 inch). These are brutally stiff and I don't know why there is a club difference between these and the retail blades I have that are S400s. I have CG-1s, 695.MBs, 660s, X-Tours all in X-100 and they aren't nearly this stiff. When I looked at the step pattern between my 695.MBs the Nike Blades are indeed shorter to the hosel, however not enough to be hard stepped. I guess I can switch these to S400s to be able to play them but the way they are too much work. I guess they can make a good conversation piece as is. I had two good state amateur champions (both play X-100s as well) try them out and they both said too much work as well. These by the way do have a higher muscle than the early retail version but don't have TW stamped on them but rather have Tiger Woods etched on the muscle.

I also noticed that the shafts in the Tiger Woods wedges are not dynamic gold. Appear to be by step pattern but no silk screening by last step instead they say made in japan just under the grip. Wonder who makes these---nippon maybe?

Anyone else own a set of these beasts (IMHO).

i've seen this set next to the retail version and thought the muscle back was identical. even though i don't x100, in just taking practice swings in the shop they felt like phone poles.

What I was comparing them to was one of the first sets of the forged blades that Nike produced and the muscle was higher very much like the muscle in the newer model.

 

I think the biggest reason I got them cheap was they are trying to dump most of the Nike irons which just isn't selling (other than the SQ and for a time the slingshots). Even the redone pro combo tours (which look pretty good) just sit and gather dust so Nike really does need to redo the whole line.

They probably play so stiff, because they are shorter. Dynamic Gold seems to get stiffer the shorter they are...

Any more opinions on these ???

How many retail mb's were made? I thought nike has only had one blade the entire time.

They were a special edition set put out in 2004. They only made 2004 sets and were originally sold with a special edition ignite drver and Frank headcover. It was the closest thing to owning Tiger's clubs you could get. A few of the drivers are showing up on the board now. The shafts in the irons are short because they are tipped about 1/2 inch. I have hit them too and the do hit different than my blades w/ X-100s. They are a lot of club. Congrats, $499 is a great price for these.

Are you sure they are tipped ??? Maybe hardstepped ?? I dont think Nike would tip a taper tip shaft...

 

They are exactly like the regular blades...Just different logo....From what i have been told.

different driver. the driver that came in this set was a 7.5* ignite 410. the driver that has been mentioned on the board (which i do have one) is a ignite 340 9.5*

almost bought them, but chose not to have is logo on my clubs :P

went with normal Nike Blades with X-100's

i think the shaft thats in those clubs are true temper dyn gold x-7's that are only available at true temper tour concept dealers...those are some insanely stiff and heavy shafts! ;)

I believe sandy has said in some other posts that these limited edition iron heads were some of the best he has ever seen with regards to consistently weighted heads and finish.

yeah the x-7's are way stiffer and heavier than the x100's
