HOT HOT HOT!

This heat wave is killing me.... literally!
I live in Philadelphia PA and I can't remember it being this hot.... ever. I played 18 yesterday and thought I was going to die. I drank so much water and still my arms were cramping. I played football in high school and college and during our summer camps it was hot but never felt the heat effects as I did yesterday. It's supposed to stay like this for another couple of days too and I'm supposed to be in an all weekend golf outing with my buddies this weekend. WTF! I've also noticed that this heat wave is not only in PA but accross the country. How's it affecting you all?

just try to play either in the mornings or after 3 and avoid the 9-3 period where its the hottest. I've been starting rounds at around 3:30 and the heat isn't as bad as earlier in the day. Plus you get to pay twilight rates on some courses and there aren't as many people out so you can play faster. And if you can, try to ride in a cart instead of walking, the cart has shade and you wont get drained as fast. Just an idea though, cuz its not too smart to get a heat stroke or something just because you want to play golf.

OK, besides the obvious need for proper hydration and sunscreen - cover your head.

* You don't want the sun frying your brainpan.

* Keep dousing yourself with water - your hat, your head, your back. OK, try not to get it on your hands, but cool water really does help in high heat.

* Anytime you can, be in the shade. The less sun, the less heat.

* Cool, hightech, lightweight clothing. You want stuff that will breathe and help make you less uncomfortable.

* Hire someone to follow you around with a big fan and keep waving it at you :drinks:

I've lived in Texas almost all my life, but did live in New England for 6 months during college. I will say that a summer heat wave up there sucked compared to anything I've had in Texas. But, it wasn't the heat that sucked, it was the fact that the school had no air-conditioning. It stayed in the 90's for about two weeks and about every 2-3 nights a group of us would pool our money and go get an air conditioned hotel room.

That all said, the heat doesn't bother me until it get's up around 105 and the humidity is up. I can still deal with it, but my hands will start sweating so bad I'll go through 4-5 gloves in a round.

Even though the temp has been around 100 here for several weeks, it really hasn't bothered me. I hit balls for an hour and a half last night from 5:15 to 6:45 and the temp was probably around 102. No shade around, but I wasn't bothered. Just drank my water and kept hitting.

Techsan, are you a Red Raider? Get your guns up!

Yes I am! That is what sucked about moving from Lubbock to Houston, dry heat vs. humidity. Give me 115 with no humidity over 95 and 90% humidity any day of the week!

Don't want to extend the arguement, but as a lifelong New Englander let me just say that RELATIVE to what we're used to, 100 degrees is about 15 degrees more than normal. If it's 100 degrees every day in the south, you'd consider 115 hot.

It's the same reason southerners come up here and are freezing cold when it's 37 degrees while everyone else is walking around in sweaters like they're on the cover of a damn J. Crew catalog.

SF Bay Area Dry Heat in the 90s, Austin, TX heat in the High 90s-100, Florida Steam Baths, etc. I'm out early and done by 11 or 12. I would rather wake up early than bake in the sun. Evenings aren't bad but, I'd rather spend the rest of the day doing something on an upnote :drinks:
