Need advice - Mesquite golf courses

Recommended Posts

A group of us are going to Mesquite at the end of March. We currently have tee times at:

Conestoga

Oasis - Palmer course

Chase at Coyote Springs

Wolf Creek

All tee times are between 11am and noon.

Are these courses good? Should we play Falcon Ridge or Casablanca instead of the above?

Also how do these compare to Scottsdale AZ courses? Last year we played WeKoPa, Troon North, TPC Scottsdale, Boulders and Greyhawk. I loved the AZ courses.

Thanks in advance.

Wolf Creek and Conestoga are must plays. I am not familiar with Coyote Springs. Save Falcon Ridge and Casablanca as a last resort. Better yet....1 hour drive north to St. George opens up more must plays....Ledges, Sand Hollow and Coral Canyon.

I actually like Falcon Ridge over the Palmer course. Price is lower and IMO the golf is as good or better. Too many house sprouting up around the Palmer. Sand Hollow would be anohther good option if you don' tmind the travel. I think that you will really enjoy Mesquite, It's low key and the golf is good. I have played all of the courses other than Coyote Springs, but it got some really good press when it opened. My Issue was the hour plus drive to the middle of nowhere and the price was quite high at first, I hope that has gone down. Anywho, you have a good trip planned and you will have fun. Wolf Creek is a must play, even though I don't think I would like to play it weekly it's great on a trip. You will look at some of the holes and think, " who in the hell even thought about putting a golf course here?" And you are going at the perfect time of the year. you could even sneak a 36 hole day in and play Connestoga, (great, great course) and Falcon Ridge. One other thought that just came to mind, there is a new course in the St. George area, kokopelli, pretty awesome course. It's a little more out of the way but it maybe something you could check out.
Have fun.

Wolf Creek IMO is ok, visually stunning from the tips but glad they gave me the twilight rate because it's not worth 195. I was going to play Conestoga but thought I'd head to St. George's instead.
Sand Hollow was my favorite track that I played in the month I was gone.
Coral Canyon was also very nice, everything in front of you nothing tricked up.
Ledges was nice but not in very good shape.

I just got back from a golf trip there.

We played:
Falcon Ridge - great
Conestoga - great
Wolf Creek - off the charts fantastic - must play - don't miss it
Oasis/Palmer - it's ok, but if I had to do it over again, I would have taken the day and traveled up to St. George and played one of the courses there (Sand Hollow?) or play Conestoga again (it is one of those courses that grows on you and you realize that you would play it differently now that you know the course).

Falcon Ridge - the back nine is very different with most holes being blind off the tee vs. the front which was very obvious as to where to hit. The fairways are like carpets and the greens hold and leave a ball mark.

Conestoga - much newer course - the fairways are a little thin as are the greens as the course is only about a year old. Hard to get the ball to leave a ball mark and the ball runs so I would advise that unless you can really spin the ball you might want to play the front third of most of the greens.

Wolf Creek - nothing to add except it is a must play

Oasis/Palmer - this is a course that you could really find anywhere - don't get me wrong we enjoyed it but after playing the others it was really different. Most of the fairways are lined with 60's and 70's era palm springs type condominiums.

We played it last and it wold have been better to have played it first if at all. If I were to go back I would skip it.

I hope that helps, have a great time. If you stay at Virgin River take an air mask with you into the Casino - no ventilation at all and very low ceilings. I am surprised the health dept. hasn't made them do something to clean the air - it was really disgusting. The rooms were fine. We hung out at Eureka across the street - no problem breathing there at all.

Thanks for the info! We leave in a week and are playing the following -

Thurs - Conestoga
Fri - Wolf Creek
Sat - Oasis Palmer
Sun Chase at Coyote Springs.

And we are staying at Falcon Ridge Hotel.

Anyone know if there is any night life in Mesquite?

You've received lots of sound advice Jason regarding courses.
The hi-lite course is most definitely Wolf Creek. Play it more than once. You'll want another crack at it, I'm sure.
We were there last March and stayed at the Casablanca where the machines DON'T PAY!
Pack for the chance of cold weather. It was both cold and windy, which made Wolf Creek some kinda test.
Night Life? No Vegas for sure! No beautiful people there. Unless you're a young buck, the wind and the golf will put you to bed early
if you expect to redeem yourself tomorrow.
You'll enjoy yourself!
