Re Grooving before refinishing irons

going to refinish my ISI's

So I am planning on sending in my ISI's to get them refinished..they are coming up on almost being 15 years old and need some love. I was thinking about buying one of those groove tools from the Bay and regrooving my irons before I sent them in. I just read on ping's site they will not regroove irons because of the "face dip" older irons get.....I don't want to ruin my irons by trying to save money and use this tool to regroove my irons....so

1. Does this goove tool work effectively?

2. Is the tool safe for my clubs?

3. Could the refinish give my grooves some of their grip back?

4. Should I just send them in and have them refinished and forget about the gooves?

any advice is appreciated...

i just used the tool and it does work..........you have to put a lot of pressure and it takes a while, the cutter gets dull pretty quick, i am confident it will cut through most metals.......at first i cut them dry, i use to race mx so i had some suspension fluid ( fork oil) which is super slippery and used that as a lubricant and the results were much better,,,,,,,,,,so long story short is if it wasnt that expensive i would prolly have it professionally done but i cut my grooves a little deeper and the edges are sharp.........havnt tried the clubs yet but just after feeling it i can tell its going to spin the crap out of the ball.........possibly shredding the face on the first few, i already generate a lot of spin with my swing, i really come down on the ball and always take a divot after the ball...........i actually had to work on shallowing out my swing to not take so much earth.............5-7 yrs ago i would take a serious hunk of earth.........

use some oil and by an extra cutting head..........i am curious where i can get an oversize cutter as it prolly wont work again and i wouldnt mind having bigger sharper grooves anyway.......i am usually long and i love to spin the ball, especially on short chips out of rough it would be nice to get as much spin as possible
