Scottsdale Trip Review

We played 5 courses out of the 7 days in which we stayed for my spring break.

 

WeKoPa Saguaro - Very nice course. I played the Cholla course last year and this course just blows it away. It's quite tight and the desert hazards run right off the fairways, but it is a very nice course, and it is a must play if you are planning to take a trip to Scottsdale.

 

Monument - Troon North - In my opinion the best course there is in Scottsdale. It's so nice along with all the very nice houses that you see along the way. The course is fair and quite forgiving compared to the other courses in the area.

 

Pinnacle - Troon North - It doesn't topple the Monument course but still, it's an awesome course. It's not as forgiving as the Monument, but it is a very structured course with a lot of different holes and overall a very nice and enjoyable course

 

South Course at The Boulders - This course is not as good as the courses above, but it does have some great scenic views and it seems that the course was built backwards. There is a resort running right through the course and it seems that the resort was built first and then the golf course carved after that. It's a fair course, but i think it could be better.

 

Eagle Mountain - This course was the easiest of the 5 i played in my opinion. The elevation changes are very cool. Especially the 18th hole. You tee off 400 feet above the fairway. Overall, the course is not as strong as WeKoPa or the Troons, but the scenic views and the elevation changes are well worth it.

Pinnacle - Troon North

Monument - Troon North

 

Are there any more courses that are worth it to play on in the Scottsdale / Fountain Hills area?

 

I played the Talon course at Grayhawk and I didn't care for it that much. Is the Raptor course much better?

You may want to look into Superstition Mountain as well. I hear nothing but glowing reports. There is also Red Mountain Ranch, it was private but is now semi private and a Pete Dye design. I also hear good things. Both these are on my to-do list this summer.

The Phoenicean is okay but nothing special. If you are willing to drive I'd suggest the following:

Southern Dunes in Maricopa about 40 minutes South

Raven at Verrado in Buckeye, about 40 minutes West

Dinosuar Mountain, about 40 minutes East

I'm surpised you felt that Saguarao was tight. I think you almost have to try to miss a fairway most are so wide.
