Quite a few guys from this site are going to Firewheel Bridges Course in Garland on April 20th if you would like to join. Just PM me I you would like to go so I can get an accurate headcount to get the group rate and get the correct number of tee times.

Yes I am apprised of that and I'm in, just so others know what we are talking about here is the thread.

looking to play this weekend 524-5/26, free Friday afternoon, Sat Morn, or Sunday afternoon. I'm up in Addison, and mostly play in Carrollton at Indian Creek, but open to others.

Anybody interested?

I'm new here so I figure I'll use this thread to introduce myself, as I'm definitely interested in learning about the golf scene here and getting out there more often.

I'm Jeff, 37, in Plano but originally from Boston. I was an avid golfer in high school and college but stopped playing in my early 20's, and got back into it this winter when visiting my parents in Florida.

Back in my "avid" days I was basically a bogey golfer and breaking 90 was a good round. At this point I'm just trying to get back there and have been taking some lessons with Gary Dennis at Pecan Hollow which has been great for me and VERY reasonably priced. I'm guessing most of you guys are better, but even though I'm a higher handicapper I always respect the game and pace of play.

I work full time and have a wife and two year old, and we do a lot of family things on weekends, so I have a limit to my golf time. I usually try to practice at least once a week and play a couple of times a month.

So far I've played Pecan Hollow and the Firewheel Lakes course, and will try Sherril Park soon. Those are the three closest places that were recommended to me, but I'm definitely trying to learn about more places and branch out a little. I'll be following this thread and will try to jump in when I can as far as outings and meetups.

In what kind of shape is Pecan Hollow? 15 years ago or so it was my "home" course. I always thought it was the Metroplex sleeper course. But they ruined it when 17 was redone.

Pecan Hollow - I haven't played the actual course in about a month and a half, I played it about three times in March/April but two of those were only the front nine. Back then it was still a little bare, but I'm thinking the recent rain they got probably helped the course out a lot. I practice there a lot since it's close to my house and the whole practice area is in great shape. I'm new to DFW so i'm not sure how it has evolved over time, but everyone i've talked to said the course has been vastly improved since DA Weibring redit it two years ago.

jaytee617 and I are playing at the Indian Creek Lakes course (Carrollton) at 7:39 on Saturday (6/8), if there's an open spot, feel free to join us!

If it was the Creeks side I'd definately be in, don't care much for the Lakes side, but I still may if I don't come up with anything else, thanks though.

Onetime19, The other two spots for our tee time are not showing up on the website as a available, but if you want them it might be worth a call to the pro shop because I had trouble with the online system when setting up and had to call in to confirm the tee time. If not maybe we can set up a time for another day to play the creeks.

Anyone here ever played Oak Hollow in McKinney? Thoughts?
I play there once in a while because I can find some really good deals on Golfnow. $9 last time. It won't remind anyone of Augusta National but for the price it's not bad. Its a par 70 6600 yrd course so someone with average abilities can hit every club.

I like it but I'm low maintenance and rarely spend more than $30 for a round.

Thanks for the feedback TServos...I'm guessing $9 must have been a weekday twilight deal or something because I just signed up on Golfnow for Saturday morning and it was $43.
I play nearly all of my golf during the week because of my job. The $9 round was probably around noon on a weekday. But usually it's about $15 or so. There are a few courses, Sherrill Park, The Bridges, Oak Hollow, and a few more that can be played for less than $20 if you are flexible. I hunt around for those or just go play WestRidge after 2pm for $20.

I am like TServos and occasionally play there during the week because it is fairly inexpensive and I don't live too far from it. Usually around $20 for 18 w/cart. Also they have a Tuesday night scramble @ 5:00. I played in it this past Tuesday and the greens were a little slow and bumpy. Otherwise not too bad for the price.

It's growing on me. I would probably choose it over Westridge if I lived closer, but I'm close to Westridge and use its Practice N Play program a lot and can play after 2 for $20 any day i want.

So for this being my first season as a Dallas/Collin County golfer I think I'm doing pretty good...So far I have played:

Pecan Hollow
Los Rios
Oak Hollow
Indian Creek (Lakes)
Firewheel (Lakes)
Woodbridge
Sherril Park #1

Anyone have any more suggestions for me? I'm a bogey-ish golfer and my price limits are $50-60ish for a weekend morning round and in the $30s for a twilight deal (i.e. i'm not playing the Tribute or Cowboys any time soon). I see many courses on golfnow.com and golf18network.com but am never sure what the courses are actually like because sometimes the online reviews can either be overly positive or overly negative and things can change.

Grapevine muni is on my list, as is the Golf Club of Dallas (although it's a little further South than I typically go)

Try Waterview in Rowlett. Not that far from Woodbridge.

Also the Creek course at Indian Creek - much better than their Lakes course IMO

Firewheel Bridges. Haven't played there since April and the Traditions 9 left a bit to be desired but usually Champions and Masters rotation is pretty stable.
