Seeking recommendations for ABQ Golf + Good bars\restaurants

Traveling out April 16 thru 19
I've cross posted in another forum, but wanted to get ideas \ suggestions about where to play within an hour of ABQ (preferably en route to either Ruidosa or Santa Fe). Also intersted to hear good resaturants \ bars to check out on our visit near ABQ.

Thanks for any advice...if anyone would like to play Sandia on Sunday AM the 17th, I have a tee time set.

i live in Albuquerque and here are the top courses to consider within an hour drive of ABQ:

-UNM South Championship course is south of the airport about 5 minutes and is one of the best college courses in the country from what others have told me. I think the course is in the top 3 within the city without a doubt. Prices are pretty reasonable as well at around $65 with a cart.

-Sandia is a great course as well and can offer some nice challenges. If you can play it with someone that has knowledge of the course it will help since there are some holes that become much easier with direction. It is about $90 on the weekend.

-The most difficult in the immediate area is Paako. It is in on the other side of the Sandia Mountains and is about a 30 minute drive. It is buried in the mountain and has some great holes that take advantage of the elevation changes you would expect from a mountain course. A lot of fun and very pleasant. It is about $120 on the weekend.

I would without a doubt take you up on the offer to play this Sunday but have a prior obligation. Next time you are out this way I can definitely meet up for a round and hopefully show you some of the course secrets in the land of enchantment. I can ask a few buddies if they are interested in playing if you are still looking for others, just let me know.

A nice little course sort of on the way to Santa Fe is Cochiti GC it is off the beaten path, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and is a little known course that is a nice challenge - and the scenery is pretty spectacular.

Local Golf courses in or around ABQ that are ok:

Sandia
Santa Anna
UNM South
Isleta
Paako Ridge (pricey though)
Desert Greens

For the city courses Arroyo Del Oso is not too bad, but is always crowded and slow.

As for ABQ restaraunts - Sadie's and El Pinto are the best in town and both worth a go. Definately get the enchilada at El Pinto, and the burrito at Sadie's. You will not be dissappointed! Make sure there is a cold beer or margarita close by!

Really surprised no one has mentioned Black Mesa near Santa Fe (Golf Digest Top 100) or Twin Warriors. These two were definitely the highlight of my last trip through there.

Sandia was good, UNM was okay, Towa was okay, didn't care for Isleta or Santa Ana too much. Played Paa Ko the trip before...definitely the crown jewel of the area.

We got out there and, due to how nice the Sandia facility was overall (resort\casino), rarely left. I wound up playing Sandia twice and really enjoyed it. I played the 6,883 yard tees and really enjoyed it. The greens putted true, the fairways were in excellent condition and the ball sure flies out there. Next time out, I'm going to definitely hit UNM South.

I did a drive-by at Arroyo Del Oso, but it looke like a round would have taken 5+ hours.

@Neurotica-you didn't steer me wrong with Sadies. I had a little difficulty finding it, even with GPS, but the Carne Avodado was tremendous.

Yes, there is. Kellys and The Library also have some nice attractions. Or you could just go to TD's.

Just found out that Black Mesa is in horrible shape and we will not be able to play it this weekend. I was offered to swap that round out with a round a Pueblo de Cochiti or Sandia. any suggestions on which one we should play?

Cochiti would be my reccommendation. Though challenging the views and tranquility of Cochiti are hard to beat.
