Very nice course, not particularly long but tight with the fastest greens in Albuquerque. A number of good golfers that are mostly older in age 40 - 60. They are trying to get a younger membership and have had several special rates for new members.

Albuquerque CC is also seeking new memberships, price is reasonable, the course is a little old fashion.

You might also check out Santa Ana Pueblo course. Full membership is $2500 a year, or they have an associate membership for 1600 a year but only plays Mon - Thurs. It is always in great condition. I recently joined there and am very happy.

UNM South is very challenging, Mickelson won his NCAA there. Prices are very good for a membership.

Santa Ana has the best practice facilities, Four Hills are okay, UNM is very good. There is a good practice facility at Baloon Park. I rarely practice so really can't comment with a lot of knowledge.

I will say that there are many quality course in Albq. and the surrounding area. Depending on your age and financial status would make a difference as to where would benefit you the most.

I was a member there for a couple of years before I let it go. It is an ok course; it is short with bunkered, sloped, and pretty well protected greens.

For me, being a member there was not worth it. I joined the Champions Club at Sandia, and I played there a lot (50% there and the rest all over the area). I also liked having the flexibility to play all over the area without feeling obligated to get my money out of Four Hills. It was more fun (and cheaper in the long run) to mix it up.

Thanks again for the info.

I've used the practice facilities at Arroyo and they were decent - nice grass range and large practice greens. The balloon park facility has a nice driving range but the greens were in pretty rough shape, at least in March maybe they get better as it gets towards summer.

I like the location of four hills as we live close to that area now and are thinking of moving to the east mountains when we look to buy a place, so that would still be convenient. For the prices they are offering right now, if I was to play 5 times a month it would essentially be the same as playing city courses price wise.

Bad link.

My brother-in-law lives in that neighborhood, but I've yet to play there. I remember looking at the rates, and for junior memberships(I'm 29), it was under $200/month with no initiation fee. Not too shabby. Looking at the yardage though, it does seem pretty short, especially up in that high elevation!

Keep us posted as to what you end up doing!

Click on guests, then club info->membership

Yeah I'm about to turn 29 and for a single membership its $127/month plus $17 range fee. I agree it does seem kinda short. I'd say I picked up closer to 15 yards moving here from sea level, although with the ever present wind this time of year I'm not positive on that yet. Its supposed to be quite tight however, with a lot of undulation to the greens. We'll see I may try to check them out soon. Another option is the city pass for all 4 city courses, about $1400 for unlimited golf. I'd like to play all the courses in the area before deciding.

Man, 127/month for all you can play is SOOOOOOOOOO LOW!

It's nice to have a home course where you can just hop out any time, and get the full benefits of membership. Fine tune your game, then maybe hop out to a different course once or twice(or more) per month.

I have a membership at a semi-private(very semi ahah), and since joining there, my handicap has come down from about a 9 or 10, to a scratch, at times dipping in to the + region.

I almost feel that at around 150/month for unlimited golf and practice, what do you have to lose?!?!?

I actually live in arizona where the memberships are so unreasonable!

However on my visit to ABQ last weekend, I decided to dig around the local ABQ clubs. Only one who contacted me back was tanoan, and here's the info I got:

"Thank you for your interest in Tanoan. I’ve attached a pricing brochure for your review. The golf memberships include all green fees. The only thing you pay for when you check in for a tee time is $17.00 cart fee per person. We have a $90.00 food and beverage minimum quarterly with all of our memberships.

We have also rolled out our β€œwinter Incentive” early which allows you to join any Golf Membership in the month of November and pay only Sport Membership dues $140.00 month through March 31, 2015. We are also waiving all initiation fees and deposits if you join in the month of November. "

She also said the $17 cart fee is not mandatory, and it is waived if you walk, and they encourage walking which I thought was cool.

Never played there but seems cool, 27 holes adds some nice variety.

The jr executive membership dues would then go to $230/month in April, which seems pretty dam cheap for full private, but again, I've never been there.

There are only about 160 or so golf members. As others have said, short, tight, and you'll pay the price if you get it out of position. Greens aren't super fast, but they're as fast as they can be given the slopes. They're the best putting greens in ABQ for sure. Beautiful course that is a lot more challenging than you'd think. You can really shoot some low scores out there if you're in position.

I want to play there so bad, unfortunately I have no club affiliation and don't know any local members.

Subtle mark, really subtle! LOL :)
