What kind of player profile would you say the Nike One black and platinum fits?

How is the 2006 version of both balls? Any other comments are also welcome.

i'd say a high ball hitter who wants to bring his flight down a tad with less spin would fit the One Black. The 2006 black has enough short game attributes to make it a great all round ball.

The Platinum would suit someone who wanted a highish flight and obviously a bit more spin. They are very close in performance for 2006. I'd suggest you get one of each and test> Many love the Platinum...it's a great ball

AGREED. I like the Black myself.

 

I need a lower trajectory with lower spin. The One Black is MY ball. I actually prefer the 2005 to the 2006. But I am running out of options, as the 2005 balls are getting a bit scarce.

 

The Platinum has more spin, and a higher trajectory. It is also a bit softer ball than the One Black. You could choose either one for a number of reasons, but you should try a sleeve of each and see which YOU prefer.

Black all the way! i like the spin it gets and the great feel and dist off the tee. Best ball out there

I'm a Platinum guy myself, although I'm still using up last year's Platinums. Black is noticeably lower trajectory and feels harder when putting. Doesn't feel all that different than the Platinum off the woods and irons to me, and I don't think it goes quite as far (it's that lower trajectory).

 

Perhaps more important... to me, a Platinum putts slightly firmer and noticeably longer than a Pro V1. Defintely less spin off the wedges than Pro V1. Black is harder than Platinum by a little, but much less hard than Pro V1x which is radically different than Pro V1. Your mileage will certainly vary. My results reflect relatively low swing speed.

 

Nike One Gold is defunct now but it was a *really* soft ball - must be very close to Pro V1 with a different sound that makes it seem softer.

 

An earlier thread mentioned that the core compression is pretty close on Platinum vs. Black. Black is a 3-layer ball; Platinum is 4-layer.

I actually find the Nike One Black to be a little too hard for chipping around the greens and putting. Haven't tried the Platinum though. Currently playing TP RED and BLACK and there is not much difference between those two, but great balls.
