Good golf resort for anniversary?

Trying to figure out what Im going to do for the wife this year for our anniversary. Usually we go somewhere like vegas, destin florida, etc... well this year we are doing a family vacation in July so funds wont really be there to do a big anniversary trip. But still wanting to do something....

 

anyway, wife JUST picked up playing golf, and I mean like 1 range session and 1 round of 9 holes. But she says she really likes it. And it was her idea that we maybe do a golf trip together. Personally, i think it would be fun but Im just concerned with her slow play and making others mad... people get so rude about that sometimes..

 

anyway, we live in DFW area of Texas and wondering where is a good golf resolt / spa type package place not too far from us and expensive? thanks...

I'd be more concerned that she may not really enjoy a golf trip, than what others might think about her slow play...because *hopefully* you could find a non-crowded resort course. Do you have time to play a few full rounds together before this trip would roll around?

Sorry I can't recommend a place around here. My wife doesn't golf, so that option has not even been on my radar.

yes, we have a month or so... i was even thinking of getting her a lesson too before we go...

thats why i was thinking maybe a place where she could also get a massage and other stuff so its not ALL about golf..

this isnt exactly DFW, but only a few hours away and my wife loves San Antonio... anyone know anything about this place?

Check out Barton Creek Resort just outside of Austin. They have 4 courses, 2 are Fazio designs and are tough, but the Palmer course and Crenshaw course are fun and playable tracts. We stayed there a few weeks ago and had an awesome time. They staff there could possible be the nicest of any resort we've stayed at. And if the wifey only wants to play one round they have a spa that my wife said was great.

semi tongue in cheek....be very careful what you ask for with your wife taking up golf. I reserve the right to change my view as I age but I'm currently 46 and as I watch guys go out and play with their wives (many who have played for a decade but still barely move the ball) it just doesn't look like they're having that much fun.

Love my wife and family life at home and love my gang of guys at The Club I play with and prefer to keep them separate. As George Costanza once said "My worlds are colliding Jerry"...

+1 for Barton Creek. This venue is a resort and spa with 4-courses. At least the wife can be pampered if she doesn't feel like playing any golf.

I don't know how it is in that area but I noticed while I was on vacation last week (in Destin actually) that the resort courses that I played were very empty in the afternoons. I played twilight rounds (because I'm cheap) and played by myself with no one in front or behind twice at two seperate courses. I tried to convince my wife to come out and ride around with me but she was busy at the spa

White Bluff just west of Hillsboro is not a bad spot..about an 1.5 hours from DFW. Two courses, decent accomodations, decent prices. They have a sister resort at Possum Kingdom Lake, but its only 1 course & its a ball buster for beginners.

Another for Barton Creek. They've been running a ton of specials lately. Just go to their website and keep checking back.

Also look at Hyatt Hill Country and Horseshoe Bay.

All are within driving distance.
