Wintonbury Hills Golf Course....pics inside

BEND OF THE RIVER GC

Recommended Posts

Bloomfield, CT - Pete Dye Designed....awesome course
I played a round at Wintonbury Hills GC this week. What a great course. My only misfortune was teeing it up right behind the Connecticut PGA Prrofessional Championship. The greens had to be close to a 13 on the stimp meter! They were just ridiculous. If you have played here, I am sure you will testify as to the "rock-hardedness" of the greens as well. Nothing held, and even ultra high shots barely made a pitch mark on the green. This course was in TOP NOTCH condition and VERY pleasing to the eye. About the only thing I disliked were a boring design of #18 and the almost exact same hole between #2 and #11. I am of the opinion that traditionally styled course designed by Pete Dye are some of the best around. This course was definitely worth playing. The biggest drawbacks to Wintonbury Hills GC is the fact that your golf cart is speed limited (more than usual) by GPS and if you take the cart near another hole into the rough it will shut off. They warn you of this, but you find yourself always wondering about the cart running or not. That was a real pain in the a**, too much technology going on there.....Here are a few pics....

Your review was right on. I played there about 2 months ago and I couldn't get a ball to hold the green (and it was raining).

The carts are a complete PITA. After about 5 holes, I wanted to shut off the GPS. I was willing to give up the yardage to have that thing stop controlling me.

Conditions are some of the best around CT! The staff was very nice as well.

My only complaint is that the driving range is detached from the course. It's a car ride up the street and you can't take the cart there. You have to get back out on the main road.

Lake of Isles is the same way. I think it is a poor design to have a range far from the clubhoue/pro shop. :cheesy:

I walked that course once in November '04 when it was about 40° and windy as hell. It looks like you had a much more pleasant exprience :idhitit: . I do remember the course having some really good holes and almost stupidly small bunkers.

Great review and pics!!! ;)

This is one of my favorite course in CT.. I travel about 50mins to play it when I get the opportunity.

Staff is friendly, the course is straight forward, lots of bunkers on some of the wholes are for show, they really don't come into play.

The greens are fast, but nothing that you can't manage once you know they are slick, they roll true.
