Anyone have a Trekker Caddy Push Cart? Doc says I have to stop carrying 18 due to ankle issues and I think I would play 18 more if I didn't carry vs only playing 9 carrying anyway. Found one for $145 shipped w/ storage bag vs $200 shipped for a Clicgear 3.0

I just bought one yesterday. Played 18 holes today and I love it already. I had narrowed my choices down to the Trekker TC3, Sun Mountain Micro, Sun Mountain Speedcart V2 and Clicgear 3.0. The Trekker was the least expensive of the 3 at Golf Galaxy but money was only a minor consideration. The Speedcart and Clicgear carts were $199. The Micro was $179 and the Trekker was $159 with a $20 discount coupon which brought it down to $139. I went to GG and took my bag and my ever present thermos mug with me. I loaded my bag on each of the carts, put the mug in the cup holder and pushed it around the store. People probably thought I looked like and idiot but, so what? I was reallly leaning toward the Micro because the idea of 4 wheels appealed to me, plus the fact that it's so easy to fold up and down. It felt really nice and had nice features but the handle only has 2 posittions, neither of which are agreeable to my 6'5" frame. Also, once my bag was loaded on the cart it was hard for me to acces the cart's nice features because my clubs were in the way. Ditto for the Speedcart. It finally came down to a choice between the Clicgear and the Trekker. It was close but I decided on the Trekker primarily because of the ergonomics. I can adjust the handle where it is in a horizontal position but still comfortable. I don't feel like I'm reaching up or stooping down. It's a very natural position which still allows me to access all the features of the console without my clubs getting in the way. It was by far the best in that regard. Also, it was the only one that came with a carry bag. My biggest hesitation was that it seemed a little more complicated to fold up and down as compared to the Micro and Clicgear (the best in that dept.). That turned out not to be a big deal.

When I got to the course this morning and set it up for the first time it was very simple. It was also simple when I finished playing, folded it down and put it back in its carry bag. Again, not quite as simple as the Micro or the Clicgear but it ain't rocket science in any event. Out on the course it performed like a dream. Our course is very hilly. I used to have a cheap 3 wheeler from Tartan Golf but that didn't last long. That thing was murder to push up those hills. I abandoned it in favor of carrying my bag but eventually got tired of the carry bag and went to a more deluxe cart bag which I pulled behind me on my old Bagboy 2 wheeler that I've owned since 1989. That too was murder but not as bad as the Tartan 3 wheeler. My main reason for getting a new push cart is that I'm 53 yrs. old and have been having a little back trouble lately. I still want to walk but carrying is out of the question and, like I said, my 2 wheeler was really killing me. I few days ago I played with a buddy of mine that uses a Sun Mountain Speedcart V1. On the 8th hole, after we hit our tee shots, I asked him to switch carts with me so I could see how much of a difference there would be between his car and mine. I was stunned at how easy it was to push his Speedcart down the fairway compared to pulling mine. Today, I played with the same guy and we took turns pushing each other's carts. We both agreed that my Trekker is easier to push than his Speedcart is, althought the difference is negligable. Pushing the Trekker up the hills was no problem at all.

[SIDE NOTE: The #2 hole is a particularly steep hole as you tee off over a small gorge. The cart path goes down a steep hill, over a bridge, and then back up a very steep grade. There is a foot bridge over the gorge but Wednesday night's storms dropped a tree on the foot bridge so we were forced to follow the cart path today. I was shocked at how easy it was to push the Trekker up the hill and also the fact that it didn't try to pull me along on the downslope.]


All in all, today was the best day I've ever had walking a golf course. We started the day in a light drizzle so I got to try out the umbrella holder. The umbrella position was just right. I was able to stand up nice and straight as I pushed the cart, stayed nice and dry and also the umbrella was positioned just right to keep my clubs dry as well. I kept score and the score card and pencil were both easily accessible, as were the ball and tee holders. I put my smart phone (I carry it on the course for the GPS app) in the console and it stayed nice and dry. The cart steered good and straight, was plenty stable in sidehill situations and the braking system is great. By the way, if you buy a Trekker you'll want to use the brake any time you stop. The thing freewheels like you wouldn't believe. It WILL roll away from you if you don't set the brake.

I played 18 holes today. Ordinarily my lower back would be aching and my hamstrings would be barking big time. I feel just as good as if I had not played at all. When we were about to tee off on 17 I remarked to my buddy that I felt like I could play all day.

I love my Trekker and would highly recommend it to anyone considering a push cart. No wonder Golf Digest gave it the gold medal!

Thanks for the great reply. I went ahead and ordered one last night and can't wait to get it. One thing I really liked about it is the fact it comes with a full bag and not just for the wheels like the ClicGear, also it being a little cheaper was an advantage, gives me more money to burn on a new putter or 4 wood haha. I'm hoping to be able to get 27 or even 36 in on the weekends instead of just 9 each day or 18 one day as my time during the week is extremely limited right now. To me golfing with a riding cart is just not the same, I know for a fact I would not play as much if I had to use one.
