Black finish reduces glare. There are different types of black finishes. Gunmetal, Black Nickel, etc. And each have a different feel. Some black finishes hold up better than others. The ones that come off easily are then bare metal or "Raw". This then usually rust again reducing glare.

Thank you! But all the irons are chromed, and the faces are usually satin finished (including chromed wedges). I heard about the reduced glare of the dark finished wedges, but I still do not understand why for irons there is no such concern!

Because more loft (ie: Sandwedge + lobwedge) = more chance for the sun to "bounce" off it giving you both reflections and glare.Especially if they are a chromed finish.Hence the popularity of darkened finishes for the very lofted clubs.

In your set of irons - especially the longer irons, because of the lack of loft and straighter faces the chances of "glare" are virtually none !

i've seen pics of custom mizuno black irons though...man, those were awesome!

I bought yesterday a couple of Yamaha Impress Black LTD. ED. forged Wedges! They are simply terrific by the look. I will post some photos soon (I have 3 bags to post). They have replaced my Taylor Made RAC TP in my Taylor Made set.

I tried them at the range yesterday and they are simply fantastic in feel...

I think sevenfourate nailed it. One other historical note - I think the reason that there's a discussion about glare off wedges but not irons is that there's much more of a chance of the chrome being worn off of your sand wedge than your 8-iron and therefore more of a chance of it being rusted too. More players would then be used to seeing a dark faced wedge than other clubs.
