Sara Bay CC.......classic

Played Sara Bay CC in Sarasota, FL. this AM. 100 year old Donald Ross course......6700 yards, every green elevated, severe undulations...WOW!!! This course besides being a Donald Ross ahd input from Jones, as they were selling real estate in the surronding area, Whittfeild Estates. 100 years old aand tough as hell.......classic old design, no bomb and gouge here. Beautiful day at a couse with some pedigree.....but Donald Ross is the DEVIL!!!!:rolleyes: oh yea, and the greens were ONLY a 10.3 today, and wet!!

It's funny because I usually have this same thought about once or twice a week when I play Hollywood Beach here on the other coast. Either that or something along the lines of "F%&$ YOU ROSS!!" as I am on approach to yet another elevated, undulating green that's about the size of my driveway. Oh well, deep down I love playing it.

I used to play a Ross course a lot, it is on hilly terrain and the greens had some serious slope especially when fast. The first few times I played it, it drove me crazy but after learning where to hit it and what the greens do it makes it a lot easier. Not easy but easier. The one thing about the course, Hillcrest CC in Kansas City, is the greens are decent size, not as small as say Pinehurst 2 or some of the others, but very tricky none the less.

I have played two Ross courses and really like them both.

Mr. ross aswell as mr. nicklaus seem to like to create gooney golf.
