on Oahu west coast Ko'Olina where to play

A few places to play in close vicinity to you would be:

1) Kapolei Golf Course
2) Ewa Beach Golf Club
3) Coral Creek

I'm guessing you figured out there's a course at Ko'Olina, too. The three courses I mentioned may well charge an arm and a leg if you don't have a Hawaii or military ID. I think Kapolei is the most fun to play out of those three and has the best amenities in terms of driving range, GPS on carts, etc. Beware of slow play, especially on the weekends as the courses are likely to fill up and make for long rounds.

If you can get around Oahu pretty easily I would check out Turtle Bay on the North Shore and Ko'Olau in Kaneohe. Turtle Bay has two courses, a Palmer and a Fazio, with the Palmer course offering more challenge and, frankly, a better layout. Ko'Olau is extremely challenging and really emphasizes accurate shots and good course management (ie- stay in the fairway). There are some amazing views of the mountains, but bring a rain jacket and a gps/rangefinder as it might drizzle and there are not GPS units on the carts (you will want one). I have had no issues with slow play at these courses though always be prepared on the weekend or just try and get a really early tee time.

A couple of other courses not too far away from you would be Makaha (in Waianae) and Royal Kunia (in Waipahu north of the highway). Both are playable and might be more reasonably priced. Makaha could be spruced up a bit but offers some good views. I would actually say the same for Royal Kunia, though the views are looking into Pearl Harbor.
