Getting stationed at Ft Sill in Lawton, OK at the end of the month...

Give me the scoop on the courses!

Ill be going through Field Artillery Officer Basic Course at Ft Sill starting July 28 and am just wondering what the hot spots are in SW Oklahoma. I know Ill be traveling to OKC and Dallas a lot for golf, but Im just curious if anyone knows about the area. Thanks!

I grew up in that area. There is a golf course on base that is pretty decent. Military gets priority on there, then civilians who work on base.

Lawton also has a semi-private country club that is very playable. Chickasha has a 27 hole course that has great rates about 45 minutes north up I-44.

The gem of the area is the Territory near Empire (which is just West of Duncan). Superb new course, pricey greens fees, but well worth it.

Most of the munis are horrible, I'd stick to those courses.

I highly recommend Fort Sill golf club. It's in great shape and really nice greens.

I'll second The Empire and Ft. Sill is a decent track. The best in the state that's accessible is Karsten Creek in Stillwater. Most definitely worth the drive! And don't overlook Wichita Falls CC. They just renovated the place with bent grass greens. That ought to get you started Zach. Like everything else out there, you're gonna have to drive a ways to go get it.
