C'mon Pitch don't you understand this is just dry humor!!!!!!!! Glad to see the Euro media is focused on golf and not other things.

 

looks like they are trying to distract the Americans, but it may backfire and lead to better concentration...we have all seen in the past what Tiger has done when someone makes a comment about him or something that means something to him...of course this is a team event so will be interesting to see how it all unfolds if they actually get a chance to play! (rain rain go away)

XT, You know what I did overeact to the article. I reread the article twice and realized you are right in that it is not as bad as I thought. The article is still tasteless in how they ranted on about the american's dress. Don't get me wrong, their oufits looked like something I'd expect 90 year old men to wear. They weren't hip at all and I agee with every word about their dress. I guess I just can't believe they put it in print because we wouldn't get away with that over here. The bottom line is that they still didn't need to question Lehman's leadership over some clothes that look like crap, but you are right I did overreact.

I agree - the thing is, the paper in question (The Daily Mail) has sections devoted to fashion etc, and it looks to me as though this article was in that section and not on the sports pages - I stand to be corrected of course.

 

 

Well,,we can't get too worked up about yellow journalism from a media who doesn't know about golf and golfers.If they did they would focus on what really matters,,,like the competition itself,,,and even though such trash irks my patriotic instincts it is just ONE media,ONE writer and not the whole of Europe nor it's peoples saying these things.

I am in the media/broadcasting business and though we like to "report"and even exploit controversy,we would never "create" it.

The Ryder Cup is a GREAT event but in the end we are all fellow golfers.This paticular media doesn't deserve our attention nor respect.

Again I agree - although "some" media organisations do "create" the controversy by misquoting and taking things out of contexst.

Again, I think this article was probably not in the sport pages and was focusing on the fashion side not the golfing side. And in no way, shape or form do Europeans have an inferiority complex about Americans!! :D

It has been said that the British press give EVERYONE a bad time.

 

Faldo got a bad time even though he has been one of the best all time British golfers (some say deservedly so)

 

Henman gets it every year at Wimbledon. Monty has had it for ever.

 

I could go on and on.

 

The patriotic Americans should pay no attention to it. MJtoal said it well, we (Europeans) all want a fair and competitive match. I personally would like to see some players with a wee bit more fire in their bellies instead of the back slapping contrite smiling.

I am English and join many of my compatriots in distaining the UK tabloid press for the unprincipled garbage that it has long proven to be. Not even worth responding to.

 

So far both Euro and USA outfits suck pretty badly but I always thought that was part of the game. I notice good old Tiger's not visible in that photograph and I don't altogether blame the chap.

 

Here's to a cracking competition. Good luck, Yanks. I have a feeling you might win. I just hope it's a close match.

I'm glad something positive resulted fom my post,,and I thank you for your great sportsman-like attitude.Maybe that is why we enjoy The Ryder Cup so much,,,even though one side must lose,in the end we are still friends,,,EXCEPT for the "bloke" that wrote that stupid piece in The Dubliner.
